Now is the time to test for radon
Huron County
Health Unit
With most windows and doors
closed due to the cooler weather,
now is a good time for Huron
County residents to test for radon.
In fact, November is Radon
Action Month. Radon is a colour-
less, odourless radioactive gas
found naturally in the environ-
ment. Long-term exposure to
radon is the second -leading cause
of lung cancer in Canada.
According to Health Canada,
11% of randomly tested homes in
Huron County tested above the
Canadian Radon guideline in
2012.
"The only way to know the radon
level in your home is to test for it,"
says Public Health Inspector Chris
Boyes. "Fortunately, it's not diffi-
cult or expensive to test for radon.
Taking measures to reduce radon
from your home could greatly ben-
efit your health."
Radon test kits are available for
purchase at most major hardware
stores. Health Canada recom-
mends homeowners do a long-
term radon test, for a minimum of
three months, during the fall or
winter months. The detector
should be placed in the lowest level
of the home (where homeowners
spend a minimum of 4 hours per
day) to get the most accurate
results.
For more information on
radon and radon testing, call the
Huron County Health Unit at
1-877-837-6143 or visit huron-
healthunit.ca.

On November 1 the Legends
travelled to Belmont to capture a
4-1 win.
Riley Aitchison played great in
net. Maggie Young started the scor-
ing off with a pass from Julie Ham-
ilton. Marlee Alton would snag goal
number two with a pass from Jus-
tine Hart. Hamilton finished off the
game with a pair of goals, one from
Young and Marissa Jolley, the other
unassisted.
This week the Legends faced off
against Wilmot with a dominating
win of 7-0. Missy Kuik got the first
goal from Laura Stanley and Caitlin
Hamilton. Gina Murray snagged goal
number two and the Kuik, Stanley,
Hamilton line rallied again for goal
number three. Justine Hart fired one
home from Dru Austin. Marlee Alton
set up Nadine Vandenheuvel for a
goal, and then scored one herself
from Murray and Vandenheuvel.
Vandenheuvel would wrap up the
scoring with an unassisted goal. Terri
Allen earned the shut out!

South Kinloss WMS

South Kinloss WMS ladies met at
the home of Nancy Maclntyre on
Wednesday, November 4 at 10 a.m.
Nancy and Marion Mowbray were
the directors.
Of course, as we sat around
the table for our meeting, we
were served fruit, cherry loaf
and tea and coffee. Then
President Kathy Howald read a
poem and said a prayer. Then
we said the WMS purpose in
unison.Marilyn Maclntyre read
the October minutes and
Margaret Hamilton gave the
treasurer's report.
Marion read an interesting
story of an aboriginal lady from
Manitoba. When she was very
young, she was a survivor of the
school system of the aboriginal
people. Nancy did the Bible Study
of Joshua and we had a good dis-
cussion about the scripture
reading.
The roll call was answered by
eight ladies, a Christmas gift for a
teenager and a Bible verse pertain-
ing to children.
Kathy said the offeratory prayer.
Marion gave a reading and Donna
Sutton read the closing prayer.
