Unemployment rate much higher than a year ago
Four County
Labour Market
Planning Board
The unemployment rate
for the Stratford -Bruce Pen-
insula economic region
returned to the August 2015
rate of 6.1%, down .5%,
while the province's rate
dropped slightly from 7.1%
in September to 6.8% in
October.
It appears that these
drops in unemployment
rates can be attributed to
lower participation rates in
the labour market. A year
ago, October 2014, our eco-
nomic region boasted a
3.5% unemployment rate
and a much higher partici-
pation rate.
While most industries
across the province experi-
enced job losses, Educa-
tional services saw a 17%
increase and Transporta-
tion and warehousing
increased by 5.6%. In the
local economic region, job
increases were on a smaller
scale with a .9% increase in
Other services and .5% in
Accommodation and Food
services.
Educational services in
the local region remained
steady at 6,900 positions
and did not reflect the large
gain seen in the prov-
ince. Locally, job losses
were seen in Trade (whole-
sale and retail), down 2,400,
followed by a decrease of
1,600 positions in Health
care and social assistance.
The Four County Labour
Market Planning Board,
one of 26 non-profit organ-
izations in Ontario that

labour force planning,
continues to work with
businesses and commu-
nity groups to address the
most pressing concerns,
deliver the most up-to-
date information, and the
catalyst for building a
strong economic climate
through community
activities.
