Legion District
C meet
Cindy Black
Lucknow Central Public School
Each year, the Legion pro-
motes and organizes track and
field meets all across Canada.
The Legion District C meet was
held Saturday, June 13 at the
Davidson Centre in Kincar-
dine. This event included ath-
letes from Tobermory to
Guelph and Kitchener. For
many local athletes, this is their
first large meet before high
school. Lucknow and area ath-
letes came away with some
impressive results.
In the girls 13 and under cate-
gory, Haley Gibson came away
with a 1st place finish in the
300m, as well as two 4th place
finishes in the 800m and
1200m.
In the boys 13 and under cat-
egory, Dale Ward led the way,
with a 1st place finish in the
200m, and a pair of 2nd place
finishes in the 100m and 800m.
William Nelson was right
behind him in the 200m, plac-
ing 2nd, as well as 3rd in the
long jump and 300m.
Tyler McDougall was just
a few centimetres behind
William in long jump, and
placed 4th. Jacob Cuillerier
and Cody Moffat had great

first attempts at shot put,
and placed 2nd and 3rd.
In the girls 15 and under,
Nicole Ward was unbeatable.
As the only runner in the
2000m, she pushed herself
hard and sprinted right
through the finish to take
home a gold medal. Nicole
was also able to come away
with a gold medal in the
1200m, and was able to pass
Whitechurch's Emma Metcalfe
in the last 200m. Emma held
on to take home 2nd place.
With these great runs, Nicole
has qualified for the Provincial
Meet, which will be held in
London in July.
Special thanks to the
Legion, for supporting this
event every year. The Legion
covers all entry fees for the
meet, and the Lucknow
Legion even supplies the
athletes with meal money.
Adam and Andrea Cameron are
pleased to announce the birth of
Cameron on Tuesday, May 5
at Joseph Brant Hospital in
Burlington.
Proud grandparents are the
late Dr Bill Shragge and Phyllis
Shragge of Hamilton and Jack
