Second annual Hometown Heroes charity hockey game

The Hometown Heroes
"Raise a Little Health" charity
hockey game will be taking
place on Thursday, July 23 in
Goderich at the Maitland Rec-
reation Centre. The goal is to
raise $50,000 for three local
organizations; the Goderich-
Huron YMCA's Strong Kids;
Gateway Centre of Excellence
in Rural Health; and Alexandra
Marine & General Hospital.
The game will feature for-
mer and current NHL stars,
including former Detroit Red
Wings Forward and Stanley
Cup Champion, Boyd
Devereaux; former NHLer
Dave McLlwain, current Buf-
falo Sabers Forward Ryan
O'Reilly; and his brother Cal
O'Reilly, who is also with the
Buffalo Sabers.
Organizers are happy to
announce that the Peters
brothers from Blyth will be
joining the roster for this
year's game. Justin Peters, a
goalie and the oldest of the
three brothers is currently
with the Washington Capi-
tals. Anthony Peters, also a
goalie just capped a tremen-
dous season playing in three
different levels of hockey
including the Atlantic Uni-
versity Sport Hockey League,
ECHL and finishing his sea-
son with the Rochester
Americans in the AHL.

Local NHL standouts are
lending their time to raise
funds for three local commu-
nity organizations. Newly
recruited players include: Liam
Maaskant, Captain of the
Kitchener Rangers from
Goderich Township; Kenny
Huether, Memorial Cup win-
ner with the Oshawa Generals;
Ray Huether, Centre for the
North Bay Battalion in the
OHL; Nick Spaling, the newest
member of the Toronto Maple
Leafs from Drayton, Ontario;
Brandon DeFazio, team mates
with Cal O'Reilly and Calder
Cup Finalist with the Utica
Comets. Brandon also played
his first NHL game this year
with the Vancouver Canucks.
Five more local hockey
standouts have joined the ros-
ter including: Joey Hishon, a
Stratford native, played 13
games with the Colorado Ava-
lanche last year. Hishon also
played for the Owen Sound
Attack and lead the team in
scoring in 2009; Garrett Meurs,
a Ripley native is currently
playing for the Fort Wayne
Komets in the ECHL. He was
drafted by the Colorado Ava-
lanche in the 2011 NHL entry
draft; Bobby Raymond, a
BMO supports Lucknow

The employees of the Luc -
know BMO once again held
their annual Summerfest
Barbecue. The proceeds
were dontated to Lucknow
Minor Soccer to purchase
jerseys for two teams.

Recreation, reported that
with the $677 donation Luc -
know Minor Soccer pur-
chased one set of jerseys for
the 2015 season and another
set will be purchased for the
2016 season.

(DEL). He was AHL Champion
with the Binghamton Senators
in 2011 and ECHL Champion
with the Florida Everblades
2012; Jeremy Welsh, a Bayfield
native scored 20 goals for the
Chicago Wolves last year in the
AHL while under contract with
the St. Louis Blues. He previ-
ously played for Carolina Hur-
ricanes and the Vancouver
Canucks; Brad Aitken is a resi-
dent of Central Huron. He
played for the Pittsburgh Pen-
guins and the Edmonton Oil-
ers. He also played in the IHL
and the AHL including a brief
stint overseas.

out. Tickets are priced at $10
for adults and $5 for children.
The Goderich Lions Club
will also be putting on a pre-
game BBQ before the game
outside the YMCA starting at
5 pm. Everyone is welcome!
