The backhoe had to be brought in to lift the front of Dave "Crazy Dave" Gray's
International from Moorefield as a cable got tangled between the tractor and
sled. Lifting the tractor allowed for less damage to be done to the tractor
during a safe untanglement with the aid of volunteers at the Dungannon Super
Pull June 20, 2015.

draws big crowds

The 16th annual Dungannon
Super Pull took place on Saturday,
June 20 with a large crowd in
attendance to watch the biggest
horsepower sport in North Amer-
ica. With the twin tracks, the Dun-
gannon tractor pull is the largest in
Huron County.
The Dungannon Super Pull com-
bines two organizations to make up
the classes for this event, SWOTPA
(south western ontario tractor pull
association) and the OTTPA
(ontario truck and tractor pull
association). Dungannon Super
Pull has won 'pull of the year' for
the last 5 years with the SWOTPA,
winner is always announced at the
banquet in November.
Many of the classes had com-
petitors solely from the United
States, while other categories saw
many locals competing. Not only
are the competitors, themselves,
registered but the tractors and
trucks are registered by name, as
well. At one point a suped-up
Zambonie took up the challenge
and hooked onto the sled, but
unfortunately was not able to
make it past the post to begin a
pull. As with any sport, with
motor sports being no different,
there are mishaps, damage to
machinery and breakdowns of all
types. There are always lots of
helpers, including a backhoe, to
help the competitors safely move
their vehicles off the track with
the minimum of damage to their
substantial investment in the
machinery. The camaraderie
extends to the competitors who
will often lend tools or parts to
keep the competition going.
An award that is specific to the
Dungannon pull is the Mike Pent-
land Memorial Award in the 7 000
lb light limited pro stock tractor
class, as the pull was started in the
memory of Mike Pentland who was
killed in a snowmobile accident
and always wanted to put on a
modified tractor pull in Dungan-
non. The 2015 winner was Doug
Ruston of Goderich.
