It was the second game of the Lancers 5 game round robin playoff series. The game was back and forth action with numerous hits, scoring chances, saves and goals. Jamael Jacklin was great in the Lucknow net making numerous key saves. Jamie Miller got the Lancers roll- ing when he finished a nice passing play from Ben Gow- ing and Tucker Droscht. Rick Andrew and Brandon Dykxhoorn connected to make the score 2-2 going into the second period. The second period saw the Lancers get into penalty trouble which proved costly because Milverton's power play was clicking and during the game they scored 5 of their 8 goals on the power play. The Lancers refused to go away and kept clawing their way back into the game. John Chappell, Shawn Moore and Rick Andrew scored to bring the team back to within two goals. Jake Bruce, Evan Riv- ett, Chappell and Dykx- hoorn earned the assists. The Milverton power play put the final goal in with only a few minutes left in the game to make the final score 8 - 5. It was a tough loss because the team played very well at times however they learned a val- uable lesson about team discipline. Saturday night the team regrouped and headed to Shelburne to continue the round robin series. There are 6 teams in the round robin and the top 4 teams advance to the semi -finals. It was a must win game for the team and it showed in the boys' effort and deter- mination. All lines were playing excellent and it was the big line of Brett Binning, Tanner Simpson, and Jamie Miller who gave the Lancers a 2 - 0 lead after the first period. The team continued to physically dominate the Shelburne team with an aggressive fore -check and were rewarded with 3 goals in the second period. Matt McClinchy, Dykxhoorn, with his first goal as a Lancer, Rivett, Chappell, Andrew, Evan Ducharme were all involved in the scoring. With only 20 min- utes left in the game the Lancers continued to force the Shelburne defence and were rewarded with two goals in the third. From the blue line, Evan Rivett got a lucky goal when his shot bounced off several legs in front of the goal and found the back of the net. Kenny Stanley and Andrew Baker did all of the work to get the puck back to the point and provided the screen, The Lancers added one more in the final frame to make the final score 7 - 3. Brett Phil- lips had another strong game since he returned from his injury. Jacklin was excellent again in net mak- ing 37 saves. This now sets up a game against Seaforth with the winner advancing to the semi-finals to play Shallow Lake in a best of 7 series. The game against Seaforth is on Saturday, February 28 at 8 pm in Lucknow. The team would like to congratulate the Legends for their successful regular season and wish them good luck in the playoffs.
