Building Thermostats
During the February 17,
2015 meeting of the Huron -
Kinloss Council, the quote
from Cliff's Plumbing and
Heating was accepted for
$12,305.70 to replace a total
of 14 thermostats in all
municipal buildings. Dur-
ing the discussion that fol-
lowed it was asked if free
WiFi access would eventu-
ally be provided in all of the
buildings, as well. It was
agreed that providing free
access would enhance the
welcoming atmosphere to
tourists and also be useful
to residents who frequent
the buildings. It was sug-
gested that a policy be
drafted for free WiFi access
throughout the municipal-
ity where ever it is possible.
Dangerous Dogs
In discussing the report on
Dangerous Dog Prosecu-
tions it was noted that it is
very expensive to deal with
these issues. The combina-
tion of legal fees and board-
ing costs for one dog are
substantial, with Jim Hanna
pointing out that this is eat-
ing up funds that in his opin-
ion would be more benefi-
cial to make improvements
and fund projects in the
communities. The prosecu-
tions have become neces-
sary, but are costing the tax-
payers a lot of money.
Septic Re -Inspection
A By -Law was introduced
to being the Cycle 2 Septic
Re -Inspection Agreement.
The first cycle has been com-
pleted, however Councillor
Don Murray is concerned
that there are still 50 proper-
ties that are still outstanding
in the first round and does
not think it wise to proceed
with Cycle 2 with that many
inspections not done from
the first round. In discussion
it was pointed out that it
would put the entire process
off track to delay the begin-
ning of Cycle 2 at its planned
time. It eventually was
agreed that since the proper-
ties in non-compliance are
readily identifiable as a block
within the whole township,
that Cycle 2 begin. However,
Council needs to come up
with a way to get compliance
from the 50 who have not
had inspections done. A pos-
sible route is to have the
inspections done without
the owner making the
appointment, as it is within
the rights of the municipality
to do so. Another suggestion
was to levy hefty fines or
court proceedings for those
in noncompliance. The mat-
ter of how to enforce compli-
ance of the septic inspec-
tions will be added to
Council Agenda in the near
future.
