Looking Both Ways
It seems in this edition of the Sentinel that we
are looking both to the past and to the future.
Celebrating a long past together, there were 4
tables of sweethearts at the Valentines Luncheon at
Pinecrest Manor. Itis heartening to see the longev-
ity
ongevity of these marriages. In a move to make our
golden years more successful a new Grey Bruce
Council on Aging is being formed. This is the per-
fect opportunity to get involved in shaping things to
come and planning to make yours and others'
futures brighter and healthier.
The Lucknow and District Kinsmen are look-
ing
ooking to do a facelift on the tennis courts that they
originally built in 1981. The main ingredient for
this project is the Sport Tiles. Although they may
seem expensive, they will outlast an asphalt
course, as they are guaranteed to last 15-16 years,
but in use have proved to last up to 20 years. This
is a case of taking something tired and worn and
applying new technology to give it new and bet-
ter life. In turn, this will improve the lives of those
who use it to get the necessary exercise to stay
healthy and fit. One of the benefits of the new
tiles is that they have more give than the asphalt,
making it easier on older joints on impact. Look-
ing
ooking both ways at this project, there is also a built-
in advantage for the younger set. The new bas-
ketball hoops will be adjustable to allow the
youth a chance to shoot for nothing but net.
Another reminder that spring is on the way is
the fact that so many of the area hockey teams are
in playoffs. But, before the winter is over, the
Wawanosh Winter Warriors braved the frigid tem-
peratures to leam snowshoeing. This is certainly
an area that supports being active.
For those adventurers in the crowd, we can all
be proud that Bruce County has won awards for
2 of their programs. The Explore the Bruce
Adventure Passport program is a recipient as
well as the Spruce the Bruce program for their
marketing strategies in Branding Packages. Tour-
ism is alive and well in Bruce County with these
programs to help spur it along.
On the creative and artistic side of things,
the Legion Public Speaking contest has
gleaned a new set of winners. Congratulations
to those who won at their school level, then
moved on to the District levels. For those who
are more into the visual arts, the Goderich
Gallery is inviting area artists of all levels and
using any medium to enter their creations in
the gallery, either for show or sale, in the
month of April. Country music lovers will be
excited to learn who will be performing at this
years' Lucknow's Music in the Fields.
Whether you are looking forward,
back or just enjoying today, you are in
the right place.
Reminder: For those who would like to
submit articles, recipes, photos or other
content for inclusion in the Spring Farm
Progress supplement, please have your
submission in to lucknow.editorial@sunmedia.
ca during the first week of March. Thank you
for being a part of this project of the Lucknow
Sentinel. It will be included in the Sun Media
newspapers in Lucknow, Kincardine, Goderich,
Clinton, Seaforth and Grand Bend. Watch for it
at the end of March.

Happy 90th birthday to Marg Finlay, con-
gratulations Marg, we wish you many more.
Last Wednesday, known as Ash
Wednesday, a number of people from St.
Peter's Anglican Church gathered together
at Rivervalley Apartments for an Ash
Wednesday service led by Rev. Perry Chu-
ipka. Some of the former St Peter's congre-
gation are planning to get together once a
month for a service to take place in the
homes of different members.
Recently, the Lucknow Sepoy Ranees
travelled to Kincardine for a Valentine's
and Chinese NewYear's Luncheon. Those
of us who were able to attend enjoyed our-
selves greatly. So a late kung hei fat choi for
2015, the year of the goat or sheep.
What did you do for family day? I didn't
plan to do anything special, but was going
to do some laundry when the hydro went
out. At our apartment building, we had
half hydro, which was quite weird. I had
lights but no stove or heat, my neighbour
had lights, heat and stove, but no fridge,
fortunately, the hydro came back on in
time to get supper ready.
Coming up in May is a special 100th
anniversary celebration. Whose you ask?
Well, 2015 is the 100th anniversary of the
National Canadian Girls In Training Asso-
ciation. It began during WW1 as a way to
involve teenage girls in the war effort. The
movement became so popular, that it con-
tinued after the war. Although there aren't
many involved in CGIT today, being
around for 100 years is a big deal and it has
been decided to hold a big celebration at
Crieff Hills at the end of May for CGITers
from Ontario. There will probably be many
other such celebrations happening across
the country at some time this year. If you
were ever involved and want to be
involved again, give us a call.

On February 12 there were 8 hardy sen-
iors out for coffee at the Seniors Centre but
the aftemoon onlysaw5 out for euchre. Joe
Psutkawas the winner with 52 points.
February 14 was not only Valentine's
Day but also Hockey Day in Canada. There
were a lot of high winds and drifting snow
with many area roads closed and cars and
trucks off the road. Visibility was nil at
times. I know. We were among those who
were out and about. Driving by Braille is
no fun. The Lucknow Line was closed
from Saturday afternoon until Sunday
morning because of an accident just north
of Dungannon. First time in many years
that this road was closed.
Provincial holiday, Feb 16, Family Day, in
Ontario saw many families getting together
for fun and games. Lots of snowmobiling.
Didyou getyourpancakes and sausages on
Shrove Tuesday? Some churches held
pancake suppers so no excuse not to enjoy
this great feast with maple syrup.
The Nivens girls were in a broomball
tournaments in Barrie this past weekend.
The Palmerston Terminators brought home
the Bronze. Caneace Nivens plays for this
team. Good going girls.
A little birdie named Wes told me that
Dwayne, Wes and Calvin Rivett spent a few
days in Las Vegas. No report on whether
they won or lost Hope it was a win.
There will be Euchre and Darts at the
Dungannon Agricultural Hall on the 28th of
February and Bingo on the 27th.
On Friday the 13th Community Living
held their Central Huron 27th Annual
Heartwarming Luncheon with deliveries
of lunches, made to some folks in the
Dungannon area. Thank you to all those
great folks.

the Tweedsmuir History books and then
passed many out for the ladies to look at.
She was thanked by the ladies for her hard
work to keep the books up to date.
We closed the meeting with "0 Can-
