Huron County Library receives accreditation Submitted by Huron County Library Board The Huron County Library Board is pleased to announce that for the first time, the Ontario Public Library Guidelines Moni- toring and Accreditation Council has awarded a five-year accredi- tation status to the Huron County Library. The Huron County Library system and branches: Alice Munro (formerly Wingham), Bayfield, Blyth, Brus- sels, Exeter, Goderich, Hensall, Howick, Kirkton and Seaforth have all been approved for accreditation under the Ontario Public Library Guidelines. Clin- ton Library did not meet the minimum standards due to issues relating to accessibility at the branch and therefore will not receive accreditation. "Receiving this accreditation is a significant achievement for our library system," says Jim Fergus- son, Chair of the Huron County Library Board. "It shows that wherever you live, rural or urban, you can have access to high quality services in cost- effective ways. By providing access to free resources, libraries function as a great equalizer in our communities. Huron County can be proud of the fact that, as demonstrated through the accreditation process, the library system does this for its residents?' Library systems in Ontario are not required to engage in this rigorous process, which involves on-site reviews and external accreditors, to ensure that both the system and the individual branches meet standards for providing library service in Ontario. "It's not a mandatory program, but the five-year accreditation sta- tus effectively demonstrates that the Huron County Library is work- ing well,"according to CEO, Meighan Wark. "In addition to veri- fying policies and processes, accreditation speaks to the plan- ning, monitoring and continual program improvements that are undertaken on an ongoing basis NM Requests for Submissions from Huron County Artists for the 20 ron County Art Show At the Huron County Museum, 110 North Street, Goderich Deadline for submissions: Friday, September 25, 2015 @ 4:30 pm Theme for 2015: Our Creative Countryside Art welcome in 2 and 3 dimensional mixed media, photography or digital imagery, as well as traditional painted works. $10 submission fee Please phone 519-524-2686, ext. 205 for information and regulations. www.huroncounty.ca/museum Exhibit dates: October 18 to December 20, 2015. ,-.w — mss+ ..,F° _ 1 1 Loretta Higgins The second meeting of the Wawanosh Pollinator 4-H club was held on July 30, 2015 at 7:00 pm at the Jeffersons' home. As members were arriving they were asked to think of a club name. Once all members had arrived Vice-presi- dent Jaxson led the club in the 4-H pledge and then in Roll Call which was: "Name something you could do to help a pollinator survive in the environment they live in." Members gave a variety of answers like plant a pollinator garden and simply to not use pesticides to kill them. Maisy then read the minutes from meeting 1. Afterwards Leader Mary Ellen had the club think of some differ- ent animals around the house that pollinate. The club completed a list and then went outside to find those pollinators and some that were not thought of. The club returned inside and read about the habitat of bees. Leader Eileen split members into groups of two and had them do a radio newscast about different pollinators like moths, flies, bee- tles, and more. Once everyone did their radio newscast the club stepped out- side to plant different plants in pots to attract a variety of pollina- tors. Members finished planting their pots and returned inside Submitted Photo Members of the Wawanosh 4-H Pollinator club planted pollinator pots at their July 30, 2015 meeting.
