JOHN TF 1PLMAN Pat and Joanne Donovan and children, Matthew and Kelly, of Val D'Or Quebec, visited over the holiday weekend with John and Roberta Tanplanan and family. The Staffs Women's institute will resume their meetings on use 22 at the home of Marjorie Drake, begituung with a pot -luck supper at 6:30 p.m. Don't forget the articles for the Institute divlay at the Mitchell Fair. PEE WEE GIRLS END SEASON The Hibben Poe Wee girls ended their ball season on a very en- couraging note. They played their first garret in the tournament against Crediton, a very close one, losing by a single run. Their second game was against Grand Bend on Sunday, and once again it was a close one, with the Hibben team losing by one run. Following this game, the girls enjoyed a barbecue at the home of their coach, Joan Kerslake. On August 7, the team members and some of their parents enjoyed a day together at Pioneer Sports World. To all of the members, a special thanks for the dedication and hard work this season, and to the parents for all of their support. It was really appreciated by the coaches. T -BALL WINDS UP The South Hibbert T -Ball league ended their season by playing a game against Danny Gloor's yellow team from Mitchell. Following the game, everyone was invited to Danny's bane tar hot dogs and pop. A fest for South Hibbert, and en, eyed by everyone involved. Receiving icon peanarints for their play and spurtsmanship on the South Hibbert T -Ball ieam due year wore Ashley and Bre andon Wet- Ilaufer, Nicholas and David CDes- sell, Cassandra Pearson, Bos Dill. Danny Docking. Heather aired Ian Kerslake, Budget to Norris, ifiliew Fischer and Amanda Anderson. The team draw for the official T -Ball stand was won by Pete ChesxU. The coaches, Karan Wettlaufer and Marie Chesscll, extend their thanks to the all of the parents for bunging their 'little leaguers' out to the park thPate Smith and girls of Mountain View, California, have returned home after spending two weeks with Marie's parents, Jack and Venda Sinclair. Mr. Norman Hubley has returned home from University Hospital where he has spent the past weeks. Ms. Mary Yost and Mr. Frank Yost of Ohio have been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Harold McCal- lum. Ms. Yost is staying for a two week holiday. Mr. and Mrs. Harold McCallum, Mr. and Mrs. Ron McCallum, Chad, Janice, Cindy, Colleen and Kenny McCallum of R.R. 1, Wal- ton, along with Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hartman of Bayfield, Ms. Mary Yost and Mr. Frank Yost of Ohio visited on Saturday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Carl McCallum at R.R. 4, Walton. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Regele, R.R. 1 Dublin, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ladd of Goderich. Oxford photo Wright Reunion marks its 34th anniversary Hensall Correspondent SUSAN HARTMAN 262-2449 WRIGHT REUNION The 34th Wright Reunion was held at the Kirkton - Woodham Community Centre on Sunday. August 12. President Gordon Wnght wel- comed everyone to a smorgasbord dinner. A moment of silence was observed in memory of Margaret Bloomfield and Jeanne Wright The 1991 reunion will be held at the same place, on the second Sun- day in August with the same president and secretary. Joanne Ross held and interesting "cent" contest, which was won by the Hardeman family. Doris Jeffery guessed correctly the value of a jar of coins. A "Meet your relative" contest kept everyone conversing. Due to the rain, there were no children's games. Joanne gave all the children prizes. Everyone en- joyed this annual gathering SHUFFLEBOARD August 14 scores for Hensall shuffleboard were: Highest Scores - Jack Consist (483); Percy Campbell (459); Walter Knowles (442); Em- ma Campbell (412); Thelma Thiel (409) and George Dowson (405). Walton area bride -elect is 'showered' Walton Correspondent MRS. BETTY MCCALL 887-6677 McCALL REUNION On Sunday August 19, ap- proximately 50 people attended the annual McCall reunion. Due to the inclement weather it was moved to the Walton Hall from the Blyth Park and shortly after 1 p.m. it got underway. John A. Perrie said Grace, and everyone enjoyed a delicious smorgasbord meal. Sheila Bauer presided for a short business period in the absence of her brother, Steve Burke. Debbie Blake read the minutes and treasurer's report. Slate of officers for next year are: President - Steve Burke; Vice - President - Jack and Doreen McCall; Secretary - treasurer - Debbie Blake; Sports and games - Vicki Gamble and Julie McCall; Lunch - Murray and Sherri McCall. Pnzes were awarded to the youngest child - Bryan Gamble; Longest distance travelled - Tom and Freida Woods, Syracuse, NewYork; eldest lady - Carrie McCall, Carleton Place. The rest of the afternoon was spent visiting and pictures of dif- ferent age groups were taken out- side. Children up to 12 years of age played games and were given prizes and a baseball game was organized for those interested. The rain held off until it was time to come in and eat again. It was decided to hold next year's reunion on the third Sunday in August at the Walton Hall. SHOWER HELD FOR AREA GIRL A miscellaneous shower was held on Saturday afternoon for Ruthie Thamer, bride -elect of next month. Thirty-five attended the shower, held on the lawn at the home of Peter and Linda Uyl of Blyth. Ruthie thanked everyone for her lovely gifts, contests were enjoyed and the hostess served refreshments. PEOPLE Gene and Joyce Marcuccia, Dawn and Angie have returned home from holidaying with relatives in Sudbury and Montreal. Kendra Shortreed spent a week recently at Camp Menesetung, Goderich. Amy Shortreed had spent a few days there the week before. Ron Vercruyssen and friend Kathy of Philadelphia, U.S., spent a few days last week visiting family and friends. Women's Institute takes in Goderich sights The Seaforth Women's Institute motored to Goderich for their August meeting, enjoying a lunch at Christopher's Cove beach and a short meeting which opened with the Mary Stewart Collect and the Institute Ode. Minutes were read by Clarissa Stewart in the absence of the Secretary. Business was dealt with, and it was announced that the County Rally is to be held in Belgrave on October 1. Mrs. Gladys Doig spoke a few words in memory of Winona Pipe, a devoted member who passed away last week. The group then visited the Court House, where they were met by Mr. John Hills, Sheriff Officer, who led them on a tour of the court room BUCK & DOE Ruthie Thamer John Uyl Sat. Aug. 25 For more Info Call 887-6464 and spoke about the steps in court procedure. He showed them Judge Carter's gown, which is black and purple, the purple representing the Queen's royalty. There are about 80 to 100 present for a jury sitting in the sprang and fall. Twelve jurors are selected, between the ages of 18 to 70. The Institute then travelled to the Museum and were met by Pat Hamilton, who showed them a film about Mr. Neil's Howick township farm home. Mr. Neil was the founder and the first curator of the Museum, which started in a school on North St. on July 4, 1951. The group was treated to scones, jam, tea and coffee. The quilt show was very interesting, and a film was also shown on quilt making. The group thanked Helen Mack- enzie for arranging such an interes- ting and educational meeting. Everyone reported a very enjoyable day. Mosquitos advance On August 9, St. Columban Mosquitoes travelled to Goderich for and exhibition game. The game ended in a 3 - 3 tie. Scoring for St. Columban was Shawn Costello from a pass from Greg Van Bakel, Jane Crowley from J.D. Nolan, and Bruce Griffin from Mike Mullin. Mosquito semi-finals were held at Nairn on Saturday, August 11. St. Columban met Bryanston for their first game at 11:15 a.m. Bryanston scored first, only to be tied up by J.D. Nolan with a pass from Jeff Van Loon. Greg Van Bakel scored on a penalty shot, making it 2 - 1.
