trick anyhow.

Murray and Shawn VanLoon; Larry
Kelly (2), with assists from J.D.
Nolan and Krissy Groot, and Kurtis
Murray, helped out on the goal by

Advancing to their second game,

ning the game 3-0. Mike Murray
stood his ground in net for the
entire game, allowing Arva no
goals.
Larry Kelly scored once and
assisted once in the game, with J.D.
Nolan scoring one goal and two
assists. The final goal was scored
by Shawn VanLoon.
St. Columban met Nairn later in
the afternoon, and were beaten by
the strong team by a close 2-1
score. J.D. Nolan teamed up with
Larry Kelly for a goal, and Kelly
Boven, Krissy Groot and Scott

PEEWEE
The St. Columban PeeWee II
soccer squad played two games this
past week, travelling to Lucan on
Tuesday night, July 24, and hosting
the PeeWee I team on Thursday.
In Lucan, Mike Smale opened the
scoring for St. Columban off of an
assist from Justin Rodney. Wayne
Schoonderwoerd blasted into action,
scoring off of a pass from Janice
Stapleton, then scored goals number
three and four, one unassisted and
another from Janice Stapleton.
Justin Rodney scored the fifth goal
for St. Columban, assisted by John
Murray and Wayne Schoonder-
woerd, and Mike Smale answered
with an unassisted effort. Casey
Boven scored next on a sob effort,
and SL Columban's final goal came
from Moylan, grabbing the ball
from Janice Stapleton in a melee.
Lucan was only able to answer
with three goals in this game, and
St. Columban travelled back home
with a decisive 8-3 win.
In a bit of friendly home rivalry,
PeeWee I and II teams met on the
St. Columban pitch July 26, and
tied things up 3-3. Brad Moore kept
the strong PeeWee 1 team down to
their trio of goals in this well -
matched game.

UNDER 17
St. Columban Under -17's pulled
out a close one with a late goal in
the 2nd half, earning a tie with the
strong Ilderton team during Monday
evening soccer action, July 23.
The game started off slow, but a
mistake on the part of their defence
cost Ilderton the ball. Steve Ryan
capitalized on the error, stealing the
ball and hitting a shot inside the 18 -
yard box to the far side of the net,
giving SL Columban a 1-0 lead at
half time.
In the second half, St. Columban
played pathetic soccer and gave up
two quick goals to fall back 2-1
early on. Ilderton missed out on
several easy chances for a huge
lead, hitting the ball off of the post
and crossbar, but St. Columban also
was handed many chances to tie the
game. The locals started to come
alive.
With one minute left in the game
Steve Ryan scored his second goal
of the match, rushing down the left
side and cutting down the middle of
the 18 -yard line to drive the ball
home.
Kurt Lindemann played outstan-
ding in defence, along with Sean
Vosper, John Moylan and Kalen
Carroll, holding llderton down to a
tie. Great play in net by goalie
Mike Coyne also kept the game
close and exciting at times.
St. Columban's under -17 record
stands at three wins, four losses and
two ties, with one game left going
into the season playoffs.
