SEAFORTH MANOR
Intended for last week
Nursing Home Week was a busy
week here at the Seaforth Manor.
Special events included Pies in the
Face, Bake Sale and our Strawberry
Social. Many thanks go to Pat
Ryan, Bev Eisler, Joanne Ryan and
Ruth Hildebrand for taking a few
pies in the face (all to support a
good cause, of course!) and to the
many staff and volunteers who
brought in baking.
Despite the rain on Saturday,
close to 100 people attended our
Strawberry Social. Large portions
of strawberry shortcake were
enjoyed by all. To date, $530.00
has been raised for Alzheimers
research!
A bingo was held on Monday
afternoon with winners being: Alvin
Dodds, Bert Deichert, Jennie
Hildebrand, Marg Waase, Dennis
Arney, Frank Smale, Gerrie Taylor,
Mary Essery, Keith Herman and
Wilma Brill. Thanks to Anne
Rowland, Viola Lawson and
Dorothy Papple for helping at the
tables.
The end of the school year is
here...Tuesday morning, Mrs.
Thomas' Grade 5/6 class came for
their last time. Instead of our usual
bowling, the class entertained with
their play, "The Trial of
Goldilocks". A social time featuring
piano solos followed. We look
forward to their visiting us over the
summer - thanks for everything!
On Wednesday, the aroma of hot
dogs and hamburgers lingered in
the air as we had a BBQ. Lenny
Bloomfield, a one time cook,
helped flip the tasty burgers.
The weekly church service was
led by Reverend Gilson of St.
Thomas Anglican church.
Thursday aftemoon, our Euchre
Volunteer ladies hosted the last
regular euchre before the summer.
Our men's high was Ben Deichert,
ladies' high was Marg Smale, lone
hands high was Edith Salo, men's
low was Pat Ryan, and ladies' low
was Margerite Shill. Thanks to Eva
McCartney, Hazel McGonigle,
Doreen Kelly, Dorothy Papple
(prizes) and Mary Nolan (a lovely
snack!).
Early Risers met Friday morning
to limber up their minds! a game of
team Concentration and several
word games were enjoyed by all.
A new group of entertainers,
"The Riehl Band", provided an
afternoon of fun and frolic for our
June birthday party. Everyone
danced up a storm as the Band
entertained with several requests.
We look forward to having ;hem
come again. In addition, cake and
ice cream were enjoyed by all,
especially Margaret Dunbar, Eva
Netzke and Alvin Dodds who all
celebrated birthdays this month. Eva
Netzke is our oldest resident, 97
years young!
On Saturday, June 23 we also
held our Residents Council raffle.
First prize, our junior quilt, was
won by Mary Connelly. A silk
flower arrangement from
Hildebrand Flowers, the second
prize, was won by Isabel Gardiner

Sills Hardware, was won by Cecilia
Maloney. Congratulations to all,

4-H Wildlife
club takes in
Wawanosh
The third meeting of the St.
Columban Wildlife Watchers 4 - H
club was held June 27 at 9:15 a.m.
The meeting was called to order
with the 4 - H pledge. The club
then decided on a title page and
prepared for their voyage to the
Wawanosh Nature Centre.
Here , they were told about the
purpose of the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority. The guide
reviewed map reading skills and
had the members orienteered a short
course to make sure that they knew
what they were doing. Members
then went on a longer, more chal
lenging course.
The club enjoyed their lunches in
preparation for their afternoon hike.
On the hikc, they observed several
different habitats including mash,
woodlands both deciduous and
coniferous, and wetland. They also
played two games involving
"knowing your tree" and looking at
the soil found in marshes.
At the conclusion ot the tour, they
thanked the guide and the meeting
was conc l uded. The next meeting
will he at the end of July at the
liulleti Conservation Area
HIBBERT UNITED CHURCH
WOMEN
Allowing Dorothy Dow to plan
our June meeting was a good idea,
because we ate our lunch at the
Crosswinds and moved to Mitchell
Park for the formal part of
meditation and business conducted
by Dorothy. Gwen Christies accor-
dian accompaniment for our singing
was ideal in the out-of-doors.
A report of Campsite Experience
held at Bimini was received. The
Regional Rally was announced. It
will take place at Mitchell United
Church on October 17. Gwen
Christie will act as Regional
Secretary for 1991-92, with
Florence McPhail as alternate. We
thank them for accepting this
responsibility.
The treasurer's report proved that
the Strawberry and Ham supper had
been a successful venture. Besides
helping us with our fund-raising, it
demonstrates excellent planning and
good co-operation in the work
place.
From our funds, we contributed to
our local Stewards, to Camp
Bimini, and Huron -Perth Resource
Centre. A report from Offical Board
was received, as well as a letter of
thanks, for our contribution to sup-
port Huron -Perth's Refugee family.
Since 45,000,000 eat in fast food
outlets each day, Verle Mahon gave
us some words of caution about the
weaknesses of a "fast food" diet.
Fat is high, as is sodium. Fibre,
calcium, and nutrition are often low
in popular "fast foods". Choose
