Entrance Examinations
• gait Huron.
We give below the names of the suc-
cessful candidatee wheewrote on there.
cent Entrance Examinatioe in East
Huron. In order to pees, a candidate
must have made 40% of the marks on
each subject, and 60% of the whole
number of marks. The mairimmie
number of marks was 650 ethe mini-
mum number to.pess, 390. The niunes
of those who obtained IN% or eter are i
arranged alphabetically n the honor
list. The pass lists include alt the
other successful candidates. This was
the first entranceexainination held un-
der the new curricula mand the number
of successful candidates compared with
those that wrote is about the same as
in former years. All he examination
papers were fair and well graded, and
in the case of schools in charge • of ex-
perienced teachers there were hardly
any failures Clinton Wingham, Brus-
sels, Seaforth and Blyth passing every
candidate sent up. Some yam% teach-
• s sent up pupils at least a year too
soon.
In this Inspectorate no pupil was re-
jected who is fit to take up It ifth class
work, and none passed who is not able
to enter on the Higher work of the
Pablie, or High School.
The goal aimed at• in..th is Inspector-
ate is to have teachers display such
judgment in sending up pupils, that
there will be tio.failures., That a teach-
er who sends up twenty-one candidates
and has one failure will not say "I
have done very well," but "I bevelled
one failure too many"
It may be added thatee Spelling
paper was too difficult forthe Ungrad-
ed schools, as these schools do not
usually use the spelling book before
pupils enter the Fourth Class. It
would, we think be well to introduce it
in the Thirdleass.

of the Ociderieh Signal says: -"In re-
garci to the dispute with Goderieh
township, some of the antepayere feel
that this township entered into the
bargain with the Goderich townshi
council in good faith and should not
have objected to the payment of the
amount agreed upon, 2100 ; the Gode-

that Goderich township has appealed
in this case. Our township fathers
