Native Church within the United Church

Walton 1 unit.
Edith Wey opened the meeting and also
acted 'as pianist.
Berea Watson gave the message about the
United Church Indians with some in the
Northwest Territories, northern Manitoba
and North-west Ontario. Presbytery was
formed in 1970. There are 55 United Church
councils across Canada, Missionaries have
concerns for the Indian cause for the native
churches to survive. Edith finished with a
question and answer period.
Business was chaired by President, Marie
Coutts, opening with a poem. Audrey
Hackwell read minutes and thank you cards.
Copper Contest leaders gave their reports of
$1 for Gloria W ilbee's side, Audrey Hackwell
reported$1.50 in the absence of Viola Kirkby
the other leader.
Doreen Hackwell gave the treasurer's
report. Marie gave out dates to keep in mind
of coming events. The Walton 2 chicken
barbecue is June 28 with advanced tickets.
Coming showers are Carol Ann Williamson in
St, Ambrose Church, Brussels on July 2, At
Duff's are Nanci Bennett on July 9 and
Carolyn McClure on August 5 an open shower

scheduled for this Wednesday evening at the

BALLSCARES
The Walton Pee Wee boys won over
Listowel on Monday evening at the park,
following was the ladies slow -pitch team who
lost to Slabtown: Tuesday evening the
Brussels mites won over the Walton team.
The rest of the week most of the games were
cancelled due to the weather and will be
re -scheduled for a later date..

This year's Hensel] Spring Fair was an
overwhelming success. The two-day event
was well attended by young and old and
everyone appeared to have a great time,
The ladies section andthe junior craft
division were very well done and the school
division was flooded with entries. The
decisions were very difficult. Congratulations
to all of the children who had their work
displayed.
The committee would like to thank Hensall
Public School and Huron Centennial for
taking part and especially Mr. Kemp who
gave his full support and interest to this
brand new venture.
The beef barbecue was also a great success
and the fair board put on a terrific meal,
There will be a meeting of the ladies
division on June 23 to tie up loose ends until
next year. Please try to attend.
FAIR QUEEN
Congratulations to the nine lovely ladies
who took part in the Fair Queen contest. The
judges had a tough time arriving at a
decision. The eventual winner was Leah
Soldan of Exeter, who was sponsored by Big
"0". Dana Bozzatto of Hensall was first
runner up. All of the girls received gifts and
prizes from local businesses. Jim Swan of TV
London did a great job of emceeing the show.
Over 60 young people took part in the
junior talent show which was hosted by Ken
• Van Allen and coordinated by D. Verlinde.
SHUFFLEBOARD
A good number were out to shuffle on
Thursday at the Hensall Arena. Ladies high:
Eileen Dowson 346, Ida Dickert 332 tied with
Dorothy Brintnell also 332.
