New year for new officers
BY TOM W ILBEE
Acting PRO
This week starts another new year for the
Legion President and officers. This is the
second time in the history of Branch 156 that
we have installed an associate member as
president. The first associate member
president Jack Muir has now completed his
two year term and was one of our most
outstanding presidents.
These young members come 'to us with
fresh ideas and lots of energy to put their
ideas to work and we as veterans still have a
big responsibility to help and guide them. W e
senior members are not worn out and ready to
be put on the shelf, nor are we going to attend
Remembrance Day services and consider that
our only duty to the Legion. We senior Legion
members must work beside our. sons and
daughters so that the Legion does not lose its
oommittment to help the aging veteran, the
veteran in hospital and the widows and
children. W e must see that the work of the
Legion is carried on until the last post has
sounded for the last veteran.
Tnere is still a lot of work to be done on

meeting comes around each month ask
yourself what you can do for the new
President, your Legion, the sick and the
comrade who is less fortunate. Attend these
meetings as there is a place for you in the
Legion and you will feel better for, it.
The sports chairman informed me that he is
going to have a two -ball foursome of June 21,
if he can sign up 40 members to make it
worthwhile. Sign up today for this fun day
which is for golfers and ones that have never
hit a ball, so you don't have to be a player to
enjoy this fun day.
The awards night dinner is June 28. Tickets
are on sale now so get yours early as you don't
want to be left out.
We were sorry to hear this week of the
passing of Bill Riehl of the Blyth Legion. Bill
was a past zone commander and an active
member of the Legion. Ourthoughts go out to
his family and friends and the Blyth Legion at
this time.
At the going down of the sun and in the
morning we will remember them.
