serves as a fine introduction to the visual and
performing arts for young audiences.
The modern, up-to-date treatment of the

bowling league is well advanced in their
season play with only three weeks left in
regular play before the play-offs. Anyone
who hasn't paid their dues, please do so at
your earliest convenience. Darts are still
proving quite popular on Saturday nights
with all the hoards in play. This Saturday play
will commence at 8 p.m. owing to the beef
barecue being held upstairs.
John Lansink reports tickets are going
quite well for the Beef and Pork Barbeque'
being held Saturday. These barbeques have
been quite popular in. the past. Supper is go
ing to be served a little earlier than usual,
probably about 6:95 p.m. in order to allow
more time for the hockey fans to attend the
Junior D game. An extra for the evening will
be a live band by the name of "The Country
Companions" featuring country and western
music. Tickets are available from members
and at the Legion.
President Jack and his wife Marie are back
from their winter vacation in Venezuela.
Marie said the weather was next to perfect
and best of all "no snow." Maybe in another
month there won't be any here either.
At the going down of the sun and in the
morning we will remember them.

The first major retrospective exhibition of
47 oils and watercolors by 19th century
Ontario landscape and marine painter,
William Nicoll Cresswell, will be on display
March 17 to May 4 at the London Regional Art
Gallery.
Mr. Cresswell came to Canada from
England in 1848 and settled near Seaforth.
He was one of the fust professional painters
in this region. Although he lived and worked
in an isolated rural area, he became
recognized as a prominent artist of his time.
He showed his work regularly at numerous
annual exhibitions, such as to those at the
Western Fair and the Provincial Fair. His
paintings sold well and he prospered.
Mr. Cresswell was noted as a landscape
and lakescape artist of the English Romantic
Victorian tradition. He travelled extensively
in North America, painting scenery from the

Lake Huron Near Bayfield, Near Seaforth.
Other works show scenes of Tobermory and
Georgian Bay.
The exhibition is coordinated by Paddy
O'Brien, chief curator, of the London
Regional Art Gallery. Free guided tours of
the exhibition will be available on Sunday
afternoons.
A fully illustrated, bilingual catalogue of 72
pages will be available April 1. Two research
essays by curators, Barry Fair and Christo-
pher Varley will include new information
about Mr. Cresswell's life in England and
Canada.
