Librarian questioned on hiring move
. Huron County's chief librarian was taken
to task for not following the county's hiring
practises to find an immediate replacement
for an injured employee.
Bayfield Reeve Dave Johnston continually
questioned chief librarian William Partridge
on his having hired someone for book
collections only 10 days after he was
authorized to fill the vacancy. If Mr.
Partridge had followed county hiring policy,
it would have been about another week before
a person could have been hired.
The person who was responsible for book
collections in Fordwich fell and broke her
wrist on December 12 of last year. This
person is also due to retire on February 18,
Reeve Johnston pointed out an advertise-
ment for the position was in the Goderich
Signal -Star one week before the library
authorized hiring someone at its January 13
meeting. Ten days later, someone was hired,
Mr. Partridge said employment notices
aren't always put in every newspaper in the
county. He added the position was first
posted among library staff. He admitted an
oversight in jumping the gun on advertising,
but noted even if all newspapers in Huron
were advertised in, the Fordwich area would
have been missed. Mr. Partridge said
Fordwich area people read The Listowel

Banner, a Perth County newspaper,
Library board chairman Tom Cunningham
said he agreed with Reeve Johnston about
following county hiring policy.
"I presumed it was advertised properly,"
he said.
The Hullett Township Reeve said the
concerns would be taken back to the library
board.
Trustees on retreat
For a weekend in March, the 16 trustees of
the Huron County board of education will
gather in Forest to attend a retreat.
The two-day session on March 21 and 22
will see the trustees considering trends and
future educational considerations, school
board communication, educational financing,
comparative educational costs and goal
setting for the school board.
Vice-chairman John Jewitt said Forest was
chosen because of its reasonable rates. He
added a site outside of the county was chosen
so trustees wouldn't be tempted to go home,
"It's to keep the members together," said
Mr. Jewitt;
On the Saturday morning, Dr. William
Nediger of the Ontario Leadership Centre of
Toronto will give a presentation on school
trustee, school administrator relations.

It's Valentines day sweetheart, 4
My heart flutters just thinking of you,
And skips a beat when you are near,
1
IA YTON : In loving memory of a dear mother,
who passed away February 15, 1984.
She meant so very much to us
That nothing we can say
Can fill the sadness .in our hearts
As we think of her today.
So keep your arms around her Lord
And give her special care,
Make up for all she suffered.
And all that seemed unfair
W e cannot bring the good things hack
Her hands we cannot touch,
But still we have so many memories
Of the one we loved so much.
So many things have happened Mom
Since you were called away,
So many things to share with you,
Had you been left to stay.
IL we had one wish today
And we knew, it would come true,
We would telephone to Heaven
And ask to speak to you.
Dearest Mom we know you walk beside us,
Never absent, always near
Lovingly remembered by Verna, Ed, Glen.

Because my love is just you and I. 4
We are separated by many miles, 1
But never will there be any distance,
For wherever you are, I am too, 14.
Maybe not in body but always in mind.
You brought to life my secret dreams,
And united our hearts as one,
That sends out Valentine hearts,
On this very special day of ours.
Signed Lovey

It's so nice to have someone like you
On this special Valentines day
To help my dreams come true
And care for me in your sweet little way.
Together our hopes we'll share
For today and many more
Because my love for you is rare
Happy Valentines for ever more.

Trustees confused
Trustees ,of the Perth County board of
education don't always know what is going on
in committees they don't serve on and Dereck
Ward wants that to change. •
The W allace Township trustee was suc-
cessful in having the minutes of all
committee meetings to be circulated amongst
all 16 trustees. To date the minutes were
circulated only to the members of the various
committees.
"I want to be informed as soon as
possible," said Mr. Ward noting sometimes
trustees receive Information second hand.
There was .some question by trustees
that colleagues who have declared a conflict
of interest should not receive the portion of
the minutes affecting them.
Director of education Paul'Sherratt said a
trustee wouldn't know if he bad a conflict of
interest until after he had read the minutes.
Trustee Paul Parlee said it is up to the
trustees to know where possible conflicts of
interest lie.
The director saw no problems in getting the
committees' minutes out to trustees, it would
just mean making more copies.

Road show returns
The traveling road show is coming home.
So says trustee Joan Vanden Broeck,
chairman of the Huron County board of
education's education committee.
Last year thecommittee spent their
monthly meetings at various schools around
the county, learning the detail on those
schools.
This year though, because of the distances
some trustees would have to travel, Ms.
Vanden Broeck said the tours have been
limited.
The committee will visit Brussels nubile
school in March, Colborne Central public
school in April and Seaforth District High
School in September. These meetings will be
in the afternoon and the regular education
committee meetings which are open to the
public, will be held at the education centre in
Clinton in the evening.
