All residents at Queensway Nursing Home in Hensall have been busy making Valentines to send or give to friends and relatives. On Monday, February 3, the Kippen United Church ladies held Bingo for resi- dents. On Tuesday Lil Baker and Judy Parker were volunteer instructors for the Ceramics Club. Rev, Bob Matheson performed the church service on Tuesday afternoon, Marj- orie Johns was pianist for the service, On W ednesda' afternoon the Green Thumbs Club met in the Activity Room. They spent the afternoon transplanting, Aloe Vera plants. On Thursday evening several residents . enjoyed a film presentation entitled A Trip to the Zoo. On Saturday. many residents enjoyed a special program. Coby and Irvine Amoraal entertained in the dining room withinspirat- tione! songs. Irvine accompanied the singing on the guitar. All who attended thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. Coby and Irvine also brought with them their five -week-old daughter, Jolande, to meet the residents of Queensway. SKATING PARTY On Saturday night Youth for,CNrist (YFC) held its skating party at the Hensall Arena. On February 14 to 16 a busload of young people will travel to "Snow Camp" at Circle C Ranch at Delevan, New York. This will be under the leadership of Ron and Pat Westlake. They have also formed a quiz team to enter the Bible quizzing. The finals will be at the "Friends and Family" day on June 26. They will also enjoy , roller skating, volleyball and basketball and tubing. They will be returning home Sunday evening. March 1 will be the regular rally in Brucefield school with a singing group from London called "Rejoice," PRESBYTERIAN NEWS The Presbyterian Church W omen (PCW ) met recently in the home of Elizabeth Faber, Kippen. The worship was conducted by Elizabeth' Faber with Dorothy Taylor ac- companying the hymns at the organ, Margaret Hoggarth chaired the business, opening with several readings on love. Cathy Bellread the minutes and reported on correspondence, cards and treats. A price was decided on for the completed quilt and the one waiting to be quilted. These were set up at Marlene Bell's home. The World Day of Prayer plans were finalized with the service to be held in Presbyterian Church, Hensall on Friday, March 7 at 2 p.m. Aileen Knight will be speaker. Dorothy Taylor will chair the proceedings. Edith Bell will provide the music and Shirley Luther will be guest soloist, This World Day of Prayer service is open to men and women in the community. UNIT IV Nan Britton, Unit IV leader, opened the February meeting with a poem. letter was read from Mary Nichol Outlining her work in Nepal, Asia. Dorothy Brintnell showed a film for the study on "Summer of Loucheux•" For the program she also gave several readings, The hostesses were Marg Cole and Ardys Glenn, BRINTNELLCHAMPION A good time was enjoyed at the shuffle- ' board last Thursday. A score of 350 allowed Dorothy Brintnell to capture the champion- ship. Next was Walter Spencer 281, John Pepper 256 and Mary Buchanan 247. Sadie Hoy read the minutes and roll call °" BANTAMS SQUEAK THROUGH was answered by 15 members, 78 visits were reported. Elva Forrest gave the treasurer's report, Mary Roobal, card convenor, report- ed five birthday, one get well and two sympathy cards sent. Nan Britton read an Indian prayer as a preface to the continuing study of Canada's Native People. Elva Forrest showed a film, UNITED CHURCH NEWS Rev. Charles Scott, from London conduct- ed the service with Mrs. Scott telling the children's story. Michael McGregor, • Rod Parker, Cecil Pepper and Scott Jesney were the ushers. The flowers in the church were in memory of Jean Stewart. There is to be a Christian Development workshop in Hensall United Church on February 12 at 7 p.m. Next Sunday the guest minister will be Rev. Grant Mills. Unit 3 of the Hensall United Church held their meeting February 3. The president, Marg Upshall presided. The worship titled "In the Beginning" was conducted by Freda Boa and' Ardys Glenn read the scripture. A The Hensall Bantams travelled to Zurich February 5 and managed to squeak through with a 5-4 win. The first period was scoreless, but Hensall's Chris Campbell, assisted by Jason [manse and Rob Volland opened the scoring early in the second. Zurich came back within minutes to tie it up. Hensall's Rob Taylor assisted by Brian Moir put Hensall back in the lead with 34 seconds left in the period. Hensall once again were the first to score as the third period opened with Jim Dickens assisted by Chris Campbell and Wayne Scotchmere hit the mark, Zurich scored again midway through the third, with Hensall's Taylor assisted by Scott Bell again hitting the mark. John Roosenboon assisted by Moir and Shawn Vanstone chalked up what was the winning goal at 4:37 of the third Zurich responded with two goals to come within one of tying. With seconds left Zurich pulled their goalie but were unable to get through Hensall's defense. Hensall hosts Exeter tonight and will be looking for their first win against this team. the Kippen WI roll call Postponing age is on Kippen Correspondent MARGARETHOGGARTH 262-6902 The public relations meeting of the Kippen East W omen's Institute will be held W ednes- day, February 19 at 8 p.m. at the home of Ruby Triebner of Brucefield. Speaker will be Trevor Wilson, a pharmacist from Exeter, PERSONALS On Thursday, February 6, Rena Caldwell, Frances Kinsman, Margaret Hoggarth, Mona Alderdice and her granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Alderdice surprised a former Kippen resident Grace Drummond, now of Exeter, on the occasion of her birthday. Vern and Mona Alderdice and daughter Lynn Alderdice hosted a dinner party on Saturday, February 8 to several friends and neighbors. After a turkey supper, cards were enjoyed with two tables of six in progression. The men's high was won by Jack Caldwell, with Garry Alderdice capturing second prize, and Emerson Coleman receiving the men's low. Myra Lovell obtained the ladies' high, Audrey Coleman carte second, with Rena Caldwell and Janice Alderdice tying for ladies' low. Myra Lovell received a prize for a February birthday.
