It was chaired by President Jack Muir. The bingo machine came up for discussion again when a request from the President of the Students Council to reconsider our position was received. The President volunteered to meet with the Students Council and see if something could _ be worked out. A request for a donation from The Survival Through Friendship House of Huron County inc. was read and a motion for a gift of $100 was passed. A report from th'e Diamond Jubilee Chairman George Miller indicated a Dia- mond Jubilee Ball would be held May 9. This will include a Buffet type dinner and a dance to follow with music by "The Royal Aires," Tickets will be $20 per couple. A scrapbook of Legion Activities for 1984 was presented by Barbara Scott to Frank Phillips to add to the collection of memorabilia he has gathered through the years. It is hoped it will be of interest in future years. A scrapbook for 1985 has also been completed and is now entered in the Pmvindal Scrapbook competition and will be donated at a later date. Membership Chairman Al Nicholson had LEGION NEWS three applications for membership All were Accepted. The draw for the Early Bird, Campaign was made with the following members winning: —1987 memberships to Elmer Rivers, Bob Montgomery and Wpayne Coombs. Legion Ashtray to Archie Dobson. legion Mugs to John Hart and Larry Horne. A wall "or desk dock to Murray Ross and a membership donated by Al Nicholson to Flank Hulley. Two new members, Corrie Habkirk and Dawn Papple, were initiated. The initiation ceremony was performed by Comrade James Watson and his committee of Bill Wilbee, Cleave Coombs and Gordon Scott. AU new members must be initiated before receiving their cards as laid down by Command. Renovations to the Banquet Hall were discussed and authority was given to the Executive Committee to proceed immediate- ly with the work. A men's washroom is to be built in part of which Is now the clpakroom and the cloakroom will be built where the stairs are now situated leading to a downstairs washroom, This work must be completed without interruption to any persons or organization renting the upstairs facilities. A draw for a Diamond Jubilee Medallion was made at the conclusion of the meeting but the name drawn was not In attendance, so there was no winner, These draws will continue until the June meeting when the Jubilee celebrations will be officially over, There are some dates taming up from the sports and entertainment committees: On Flebruary 1 there will be a pot -luck supper and mixed euchre held upstairs and the following Saturday the entertainment com- mittee Is holding a pig -tall, spare -ribs and sauerkraut dinner with a dance to follow, On February 15 the Ladies Auxiliary are planning a Mystery bus trip, Anyone interested in going should sign the list on the bulletin board. Price $2,50 per person. Don't forget the Stag Euchre tonight at 8 p.m. and the cribbage next Monday night at 8 p.m. All members male and female are welcome to play. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them. Children's Sunday celebrated at Knox Belgrave Correspondent MRS. JEW IS STONEHOUSE 887.9487 Sunday, January 19, was celebrated as Children's Sunday in Knox United Church, Belgrave. The junior choir accompanied by the organist Mrs. George Procter, sang. Rev. John G. Roberts gave the message. The Belgrave Women s Missionary So- ciety held their meeting on Monday, January 13 at the home of Mrs. Jack McBurney. AFTERNOON UNiT The Afternoon Unit of the Belgrave United Church Women held their first meeting of the new year last week. Sara Anderson opened with a poem. WEEKLY EUCHRE Nine tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the Women's Institute Hall, Wednesday. Winners were; Mary Chamney, Olive Bolt, Mrs. Herb Clayton, Howard Walker, Mel Jacklin and Herb Clayton. There will be euchre today starting at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Last week 11 tables were in play at the euchre. Winners were: Verena Bone Mrs. Albert Cook,. Mrs. Les Vincent, George Michie, Robert Grasby and Lome Jamieson.
