Mary Davidson, president was in charge of the meeting. Sister Margaret McCutcheoli, secretary read the minutes and the treasurer's report. A get well card was signed by the members and sent to Sister Annie Thynne who was hospitalized. It was decided to cancel Fbbruary and March meetings and the group will meet again in April. Jean Bridge conducted some contests. Mary Lowe, Mary Davidson, Marie McTaggart, Margaret McCutcheon and Sarah Stephenson were the contest winners. Euchre was also enjoyed and a salad lunch was served by Mary Lowe, Vera Hastings and Sarah Stephenson. Mrs. Davidson thanked Verna Thomas and Winnifred Edgar for having the meeting. NURSING HOME NEW S The Brussels United Church group held the weekly church service on Sunday, January 5 at the Callender Nursing Home, Betty Campbell read the scriptures. A trio, consisting of Betty Campbell, Lynda Thomas and Betty Graber song. Mrs. Thomas also sang a solo. The residents played bingo on Monday afternoon with Bill Close being the trophy winner. In the evening therepresen- tatwes from the Salvation Army, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Purdy, visited. The residents enjoyed euchre on Tuesday. On Wednesday evening, Larke McDonald was at the piano while the United Church ladies sang hynuis. On Friday morning Anne Smith played the piano and_KarenCardiff and Jean Evans led the discussion group in the afternoon. The residents held a voting day on January 16 to, decide who would be their President and Vice President for Resident Council. There are three residents in hospital including Jack Hamilton, Eva Stewart and Jalmar Pietikainen. It is hoped they are soon well and able to come back to the home, DODGE NEWS There was a good attendance at the regular meeting of the Morning Star Rebekah Lodge. The Noble Grand Barbara Watts was in charge. After the opening of Lodge the charter was draped in loving memory'of the late Sister Dorthea Ritchie. Correspondence included a photograph sent by Kathy Morris. It was of baby Patricia and showed how she had grown since her Roses placed to honor woman's Brodhagen Correspondent BARB SCHERBARTH 345-2298 Bouquets of red roses at the altar of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brodhagen on Sunday morning were placed by the George and Harold Rock families in observance of the 100th birthday of Emma Rock. Her birthday celebration took place on January 9. The annual congregational meeting of St. Peter's took place'last Tuesday night when three new council members were elected. They are Don Bach, John Moore and Warren Young. Those whose term has been com- pleted are Darwin Dietz, Don Campbell and Lloyd Prueter. On January 7, the first euchre party took place at the Brodhagen Community Centre with prizes going to Joanne Jarmuth, Mari Jarmuth, Mice W Wson, Brad Masden, Art Former Kitchener Cranbrook Correspondent MRS. MAC ENGEL 887-6645 Mr. and Mrs. Dave Goodland and son Timothy are new additions to the community of Cranbrook. They have moved from Kitchener into the former Cranbrook school which they purchased from Keith Purdy. Mrs. Jack Conley was hostess for the January meeting of Cranbrook Women's Institute. Nine members and one visitor attended. It was voted to give a donation of $100 to the Brussels swimming pool. There is a need for more Zehrs tapes to get chairs and tables for the Community Centre. Several members with January birthdays were honored. UNITED CHURCH NEWS The Reverand Charles Carpentier spoke on "Practicing the Presence of God.' He also welcomed Martin Baan, a represen- tative of The Gideons International in Canada. Mr. Baan gave a short talk on the World-wide Gideon Ministry. Prayers were said for the sick and shut-ins and for the following who are hospitalized in Wingham, Nettie Bartley and Elvin McWhirter; in Victoria hospital, Vernon Hupfer and in St. Joseph's hospital, Donelda Pearson. The Congregational meetings are Sunday, Janu- ary 26 in Brussels after the worship service and lunch. Ethel at 8:30 p.m. within the home of George Pearson. The U.G.W. General meeting is on Tuesday, January 21. 100th birthday Hinz and Brad Masden. POKER RALLY The Brodhagen Snowmobile Poker Rally was an overwhelming success Saturday when more than 500 poker hands were handed out. The weather and snow conditions were good which made for an enjoyable and successful event. W inners of the rally were Pete De Jong (first), Don Dalton (second, Steven McEwen (third), Todd Doig (fourth), and Kieven Berdon of London (fifth). After the cross country everyone returned to the hall to enjoy hamburgers, chili and hot coffee and waited for the "Trip to the Bank" draw. Winners were: $1000 - Ron Beuer- mann ; euer-mann; $50 each: Fred Bennewies, Audrey (Lloyd) Beuermann, Alice Van Bakel, Jeff Beuermann and Vicky Hinz. Over 170 door prizes were given out. On Tuesday 15 tables of euchre were played with prizes going to Maxine Hinz, family occupies old Brenda McIntosh from Seaforth showed slides o.i a trip to the British Isles, which she had shared with Clare and Jean Veitch. Mrs. Leslie Knight thanked Brenda and presented her with a token of appreciation. The February meeting will be in the Community Centre. SNOW FUN , On Sunday afternoon the Sunday School children and parents enjoyed a "Skating and Snow Fun Party" at St. Peter's, Brodhagen, Skating and sleigh riding made the appetite ready for ho,t dogs and cookies that were served by the Sunday school teachers. • CHRISTIAN UNITY The Ecumenical Service for Christian Unity was held at St. Peter's on Sunday with the Reverend Frank Loebach of St. Brigid's delivering the message.
