Paul Engel of Kitchener competed in the
tough lightweight division, 154 pounds, at
the Canadian National 'Over the Top' Arm
Wrestling Championships held in Toronto at
the International Centre. Paul was beaten in
the finals by Paul Cecchini who is the
defending Canadian and world champion.
The event attracted 197 competitors in the
nine men and two women weight divisions.
The lightweight class drew the largest entry -
43. For his showing Paul Engel won a trophy
plus $100. Paul is the son of Mrs. Gordon
Engel and grandson of Mrs. Mac Engel.
CARD PARTY
The Canadian Order of Foresters held their
card party in the Community Centre on
January 10 with 12 tables playing. W inners

Mrs. John Vanass was hostess for the
accrual meeting of the Ladies Aid of Knox
Presbyterian Church on January 8. There was
an attendance of 12.
Mrs. Stuart Stevenson opened the meeting
with a prayer for the New Year, followed by a
reading on .the New Year theme. Mrs.
Stevenson contributed several humorous
readings.
Mrs. Leslie Knight presided for the
business when the minutes were read by
Mrs. Gordon Engel and Mrs. Clare Veitch
nave an encouraging treasurer's report. The
church cleaning and catering lists were
reviewed and it was decided to cater for the
Federation of Agriculture in February. A
committee was appointed to make plans. A
decision was made to have a supper rather

Faithful for the annual carol service prior to
Christmas. The Rev, Kenneth Knight was in
charge with Carol Ann Scott at the organ.

PEOPLE
The family of Mrs. Allan Smith gathered at
the home of her son Harvey and Mrs. Smith
on the occasion of her 80th birthday on
January 5. Mrs. Smith has a family of eight
sons and four daughters and all were present
with the exception of one. Grandchildren and
great grandchildren attendingmadea total of
87 attending. They came from Woodstock,
Elmira. Kitchener, Walkerton, Owen Sound
Landon, Listowel and Brussels, Several had
to remain overnight owing to the stormy
weather.
Ruth Jean-Louis of Willowdale spent the
weekend with Mr, and Mrs. John Vanass and
family.
Visiting with Wilfred and Mrs. Strickler
and the Vanass family on January 4 were Mr.
and • Mrs. John, Strickler and Greg of
Ingersoll, Heidi, f St. Marys, Mr, and Mrs.
Ralph Adams and girls of Atwood, Lorne and
