Spending Christmas in. Bethlehem
by Kelly MeCowan Grade 8
•St James School
If I ,didn't spend Christmas at home this
year, I'd lke to,spend it in Bethlehem To see
the royal birth of Christ. See Mary all dress-
• ed in blue and Joseph praying with love.
Upon. the horizon I saw three (3) wise
- nien; who • in those—days where_ called_
• "Kings". I followed them that peaceful
night. As we rode off into the sunset, above
the clouds out came a bright, shining star
that led us to Bethlehem. A town where no
. One had heard of. By the time we got there I
was hungry. They took me to a chophouse,
which is an old restaurant. I ate a bite or two .
• and we left off .1 or our journey again. We
came upon a young man who was knocking
at hotel doors asking themif he.and his wife
couldrent a room becausehis wife had been
• pregnant: But the all three (3). hotels where
rented out. And they all yelled "no" and
slammed the doors in his face. The Man
began leading the donkey and his wife to
find another place where they'd find shelter.
• The three kings and I rode over .to the young
lad and asked him where the young couple
• • had been heading. But the owig lad didn't
respond. Again the man stopped off at
another hotel arid asked them if they had a
. roomtn rent Haile said "no" and slammed
the door. But he thought how poor dressed in hotel. We staggered across the gravel, over
ragged clothes and looked unhealthy. Then to the stable. Inside sat the mother, Mary

It all started when I got the message! I
couldn't go home for Christmas because the
family had the whooping cough. Mom,, Dad,
Danny, Aunts, Uncles and cousins. You
name them, they had it. I decided I had to go
somewhere so I got on a bus to go to Toronto
Airport. Whet' I got to the airport, it was like
a maze. Then to my surprise my nanie was
being said on the. intercom. I felt like my
name was in lights, but it wasn't. I went to
line up for my ticket, the line was long
enough. Once I got to the ticket office, I said
"One ticket to Germany please". The ticket
lady started to squint her eyes at me and
wrinkled up her nose and Said "What's your
name?" So I told her and she said "Oh,
yes," the way some people say it. '
She had my ticket already made out. I
reached into my deep and dark pocket and
pulled out a dollar. Then the lady told me I '
won it. I couldn't believe It, I won a two way
ticket to Germany. I had five minutes to get
on the plane. So I was rushed to the plane
and off I went to Germany.
I felt Ince I was soaring through the sky in
my seat. Before long I was fast asleep and
when I awoke I was in Germany. I got off the
plane and got my school bag that contained
a book I was reading called "How to Eat
Fried Worm" 44. semi/dead Cower. But
when I pit-theMln myiehool bag -they were
alive, but not for long. I was hungry so I
went straight to a restaurant to eat. That is
when nound a friend of my Mom's that lives
in Germany named Agatha Konig. Konig is
King in English.
• I had a great time in Germany because we
went shopping every day. I went with one
bag and came back with seven. 1 stayed for
a .week but when it was over I was glad
because I was homesick. But I had a great
time shopping! I hopped in the plane and off
we went. I gave a big wave as we left to say
good-bye. When I got home my family asked
where I was. I said I was in Germany fer a
week because they all hail whooping cough.
They started to laugh and said it was a joke.
I just said "Ha, ha, ha." That was my
f, aristmas ill 1987.
