SDHS shoves
The Christmas break has arrived allow-
ing students at •Seaforth District High
School a brief rest before heading into the
last month of Semester L Final exams run
from January 25-27 and Semester II begins
'February 1.
Staff and students demonstrated their
interest in the Seaforth community by
designating the week of December 7 to 11
as White Gift Week. The result was a
truckload of clothing, toys and food with
some cash .being delivered to the
Christmas bureau for distribution in
Seaforth and district. The response by
staff and students was both generous and
appreciated.
The highlight ofthe week was a staff -
student volleyball game: This was a
spirited affair with the exuberance of the
students eventually overcoming the ex-
perience of the staff. The Grade 13 classes
took time to share the Christmas spirit by
.. carolling at Maplewood Manor on.
December 16. Laurie Crocker organized
this activity.
Grade 9 Enrichment Day was a tremen-
dous success. Opportunities to learn about
scuba diving, flying sailing and windsurf-
ing, to name a few; were received well by •
the students. It is hoped the knowledge

acted as different toys.
"Sounds of Christmas" including Santa's.
Helpers, "Christmas Cookies" and '"Santa
was his Name -o" was presented by the
Grade 1 Rhythm band.
•The kindergarten Stars did a verse -"The
Five Little Snowmen" and sang' an action
song "Christmas Cheer". •
A play, "Santa' Claus. Twins" was very
well done by Grade 3. •
The Grade 1 Rhythm Band entertained
with "Christmas Time" and "Jingle Bells".
The final number.was A Nativity Play "A
Child is Born" presented by Grade 2 with all
the children participating. Joseph was.
played by Scott Schoonderwoerd. Mary was
played by Julianne Crowley and Jesus was
the infant baby Sarah, daughter of Clem and
Joanne Schoonderwoerd.

THE FUTURE
One of the greatest challenges high
school students face is determining what
they are going to do when they graduate,
Students at SDHS have many oppor-
tunities to learn about careers and post
secondary opportunities and most take ad-
vantage.•Often studentS.begin their search
with the Student Guidance Information
Service. This computer printout service
provides detailed information on over 5,000
careers. The Guidance rending room is a
small library of information on several
hundred popular careers and also is where
students will find information on Ontario's
Universities; Agriculture Colleges, Col-
leges of Applied Arts and Technology and
many private post secondary institutions.
Interested students can at various tines
during the year attend information ses-
sions at the school sponsored by the
Guidance Department and presented by
personel from many colleges and
universities.
Career Days are held featuring par-
ticular carerr clusters such as health or
hosital related' careers and a county wide
career fair is organized on a bi-annual
basis.
Guidance counsellors are available by
appointment—at--all—times—and assist—
students with their career search and pro-
vide students with interest inventories and
an analysis of academic potential.
Finally as graduation approaches col- ,.
lege and/or university tours or visits are
arranged and students will experience
first hand the post secondary institution
they will attend on the last leg ,of their
journey to a rewarding career. The
students who will go directly to employ-
ment will often experience the world of
immunity
work through the cooperative education.
program.
And where do you end up?. The following
is a sttm4nary of where last year's
graduates went. It speaks for itself.
