Seaforth Public Works Superintendent
John Forrest has been given permission
from Town Council to order street name.
signs.
Mr. Forrest requested permission to
order signs for the northeast part of town
since most of the streets in that area have
been repaved. The approximate cost is
• $850 and is already included in the 1987
budget.
MANAGER HIRED
Town council gave its approval for the
hiring" of Merle Glanville as Landfill '
- -Manager at a rite pf pay o! six dollars -per-

• The Public .Works department received
four applications for the position. It .was
recommended Mr. Glanvilled. be hired
because' of his experience operating a
bulldozer. Kling's who usually do the
bulldozing have a heavy workload at this
time and are unable to do the bulldozing at
.the,site when required.

Seaforth Town Council has given its..ap=
proval to the 1988 Road Program and
Sidewalk. Schedule as presented.•
According to the program reconstruc-
tionwill take place on ,Huron Street from
High Street to Main Street, and on Duke
Street from Chalk Street to MainStreet.

MONTHLY PAYMENT
Members of Seaforth Town Council were
paid a total of $2,830 for meetings they at-
tended in August.
Mayor Alf Ross received $670 for atten-
ding -11 committee -meetings; one -council
meeting and one all day meeting.
Deputy -reeve Hazel .Hildebrand receiv-
ed $555 for four committee meetings and a
meeting of council.Of that $555, $300 was -
for attendanceat the four-day AMO
convention.
Councillor Bob Dinsmore received $465
for attendance at two committee
meetings, one council •.meeting and the
AMO convention ($300).
Councillor Garry Osborn received $300
for attendance at five.committee meetings
and one council meeting; Councillor Harry
Hak. received .$255 for four committee
meetings -and-one-council-meeting; Coun-
cillor Peg Campbell and Reeve Bill Ben-
nett received $210 for three committee
meetings and one council meeting; Coun-
cillor Carolanne Doig received $120 for one
committee meeting and one council
meeting, and Councillor Bill McLaughlin
received $'t5 for one committee meeting.
RAILWAY STUDY
A Toronto Star article indicates a
$118,000 study of the feasibility of a,
Regional Railway will go ahead through
funding by the federal and provincial
governments.
Seaforth Town Council had earlier turn-
ed down -a request from Peter Bowers of
Midwestern Rail Service for municipal '
funds for the study.
• BY-LAW PASSED
Seaforth Town Council has passed a by-
law authorizing a contract of service with
the Seaforth Police Association.
The contract was settled by an ar- '
bitrator last week and gives the town's
three first class constables a pay increase ,
of five per cent for 1987, retroactive to
January 1.

The motion seeks assistance and direc-

STREETS CLOSED
Gouinlock Street from Victoria Street to
Main Street will be closed for six hours on
Saturday, September 26.
Seaforth Town Council has approved a
• recommendation from its Protect(on to
Persons " and Property Committee , that
gives permission to the Business Improve-
ment Association (BIA) to close the street •
in order to facilitate activities scheduled
for the Wheelbarrow -Day. Wheelbarrow
Day is the:BIA's. fall promotional.: event. •
STREET EXTENSION
B.M. Ross and Associates have deter- '
mined the town's sanitary sewer system

HCBE seeking
new. trustee
The Huron County Board. of Education is
seeking a new trustee to represent the.
Goderich area.
A seat on the board of directors has
become available as the result of the
resignation of Mary Anne Dempsey.
Mrs. Dempsey served on the board for two
•years as the elected ,member from
Goderich. She resigned from the board at
the September meeting.
Her resignation was necessitated by a.
move to Woodstock where she and her fami-
ly now reside. •
Chairman of the board,- Art,Clark rioted,

that they have been well represented."
In their goodbye bouquets to Mrs. Demp-
sey, -board members spoke of her dedica-
tion, her persistance- and excellence in her:
work. Most recently she played an impor-
tant part in the development of a new public
relations program for the HCBE.
Mrs. Dempsey said that her work on the
board -had been a valuable learning ex-
perience and she was proud of the results, .
and - the opportunity to work with a
dedicated, talented staff.
"I don't think, that public education has.
seen the Last of Mary Ann Dempsey," Mr.
Clark noted.
A replacement will be sought immediate-
ly. The board will advertise fot'paftleipants
who wish to secure the zippoint l:at.
Letters of application will be studied by
board members and a new trustee will be
chosen by a secret ballot vote.
