Fanshawe College
offers sports clinics
A Series of sport training clinics is being
. offered at Fanshawe•College London this
surruner.
Each clinic: will focus, on building on and
continuing'the training that young novices
and intermediate athletes are obtaining in
their own school programs. Emphasis will
be ,given to learning the rules and position
roles, 'practising the skills and moves, and
developing the degree ` of body fitness
necessary to play`a—specific-sport com= —
petently and safety.
The clinics are offered in five sports:
Basketball, Football, Soccer, Track and
Volleyball. Each sport is offered for a two
hour period, Monday through Friday for a
' two week period July 6-17 or, ,Aug. 10-21,
and will include some team play or -com-
petition depending on the particular sport.
According•to Joe Dunn, Chairman of the
Recreation and Fitness Division the clinics
are "based on the concept of providing
young people with good solid instruction in
the basic skills and principles of •their'
sport". When it is time to "try out" for the,
team they will know what will be expected
of them, and they will have a lot more to of-
ler. "We see our clinics,as a summertime
service to the various school athletic
departments.
The clinics, are available to groups or
teams on a first-come, first-served basis.
The fee is $70. per sport for a two week
clinic. Free Brochures are available. For
further information call the. College at
452-4441.

Seaforth District High School did not let
fitness week go by without notice. During
the week every student was urged to get fit.
An aerobics class, instructed by Carol Anne
Doig was held last Wednesday. All male
students somehow managed' to resist the
urge to don .a leotard and Reeboks, but
several female students did take advantage
of the free class.
The big ebent occured•on Thursday when a
Fitness Frolic was held at lunch hour. The
Frolic consisted of several stations at which.
students exhibited thein energy and skill.
Some of the exercises were an obstacle
course, crabwalk soccer drill, rope jump -

Turf Club and Queens play -to 6-6 tie
An exciting men's fastball game was
played Sunday when the Turf Club took on
the Queens at Lions Park. The two teams
tied 6-6.
Both teams had difficulty getting points at
the beginning of the game; with the pitchers
striking out batter after batter. Batters that
did make it on base were soon called out.
Members of the Turf Club worked hard to
keep ahead of the Queen's with saves on pop
flys and quick returns to bases. ,But they
also fumbled a few times and by the fifth in-
ning the Queen's were winning by a score of
6-3.
That score was short lived as the Turf
Club tallied three more runs to tie the game.
