Golfers foiled by, the weather
Once again Mother Nature has done it to
the golfers in the area. Fust we. 'get the
sunshine and .warm breezes that take away
the snow and give us our favorite color
"green!” We haul the clubs out of the'
basement, empty the golf bag out (there are
always a few surprises in the pouches), and
clean theclubs. Then we putt and chip in the
living room, until we break something: Time
to head for the nearest course open or
practise area. We are keen. R's been a long
. winter.. Ws time to think spring, golf; bictiies

tease us into a springtime mood, only to
dump the iastremnants of winter upon us.and
our newly shined golf dubs. Courses open
• early find themselves covered in snow. Golf
shirts are left in trunks and turtlenecks' get a
seeorfd chance.
What to do when the clubs are screaming at
you to get out? Well, for the next couple of
'weeks Mother Nature is holding all the cards.
If the weather shapes up courses in the area
will soon be open. In the meantime there's
much you can do to prepare for your fust
round of golf in V. Cleaning the clubs, bag,
and shoes gets you in the mood. Watching the
tour events on television each weekend and
especially the upcoming Masters will certain-
ly make you want to getout and chase the ball
around. Golf magazines and publications will
refresh your mind and update you on the
latest equipment breakthroughs and instruc-
tional tips. Mentally you'll be ready to go.
How about physically? Well chipping and
putting in the house is astart but putting from
the stove to the sink can get pretty boring.
You could head down to Kitchener to Pioneer
Sports indoor practise range. On weekdays
it s86per half hour orfor $10 an hour you can
hit all the balls you want. The dome is large
enough for golfers to see. how the shot is
going and if necessary make corrections.
Rates are slightly higher on weekends, but

for keen golfers it is worth the drive and the
cash. Just remember doll' t try to hit as many
balls as possible in the half hour. Take your

wih Over the Broomballets and an 8-2 win over the Flyers along the way. They Flyers won the 8 titre
