The Novice team went • undefeated downing teams frbm Ripley, Palmerston and Cliffordl Including • Seafortli there were six teams vying for the championship, SEAFORTH 5-RIPLEY 3 Ripley started off the scoring in the first game with Pete McDonald scoring at the 1:14 mark of the first stanza. Their lead was short-lived. Thirteen seconds later Seaforth's Boyd Devereaux, • assistecLby—lason Henderson, popped one in to ,even the score. Two more goals, scored, by Steve MacInally, and assisted 'by. Henderson, Chris Marion and Shaun 1/4 Anstett, followed. Less than a minute into the third period period gave Seaforth a three goal lead, and the fans, assurance of a win. Ripley kept struggling and managed to pop one in the net with less than a minute remaining in the game. It wasn't, however, enough to take the game. Mitchell won the hard-hitting contest 8-2, but Seaforth regrouped one . night later 5-4 in overtime to prolong the series and force a fifth game Monday in IVlitchell.•Detalls were unavailable at press time. (Bader photo) Midgets beat, Mitchell in OT Just when coaches Mike Kelly and Don W illiamson and manager Gord Pryce thought the Midget hockey season was over, with Mitchell at a two game advantage in a best 3 out of 5 series, Seaforth's Blair Beuernian, assisted by Brad Beuttenmiller and Terry Gray, scored with 23 seconds left in a 10 minute overtime period to win the game 5-4 las( Tuesday night. Mitchell got on the scoreboard early ih the first period with Seaforth making a standoff. Joe Smith, assisted by And., Ball and •Beuermann, tallied one with Mitchell answering late in the first. , Smith assisted by Don Brown and Terry • 'Gray gave another point to Seaforth inthe second period with Mitchell counting one. Ron Pryce scored- the tying goal, assisted by Kevin • Cooper and Brown in the third period. Mitchell started the scoring in the overtime period with Terry Gray assisted by Beuerman and Smith answering for Seaforth but .Berierriran finished' it off. with-"Seafiritlf winning 5-4. In net for Seaforth were Jim Roth and Bill Trerneer with each making many point blank saves. There were less than two minutes remaining in the game. •• SEAFORTH 5 -CLIFFORD 1 Withonly one hours rest Seaforth stepped onto the ice again, this time to take on Clif- ford in the final game. Excitement was in the air and fans were on the edge of their seats. , Fast paced action aptly describesthe first period and Seaforth was quick in getting on the scoreboard. Devereaux, who scored the first goal unassisted, also netted a second at the end of the period with the help of Hugill , and Anstett. • The fans were riled up and Devereaux • reciprocated with his third goal early in the • second period. •Clifford -decided it was time to put themselves on the -scoreboard and tallied a point at thel: 46 mark of the second period. But it was their only goal. Seaforth played well in the third period and managed to net two more goals. The first was popped in by Devereaux, who brought his goal total for the game to four. Mark Van Doren, on a beautiful pass from Henderson, netted the final Seaforth goal. Parents and coaches congratulate the Novice team' who they say, "played an ex- cellent tournament". The Novice have had a tremendous year, winning three out of the five tournaments they've entered and being finalists in the other two. The team, already league cham- pions, can now adclthe Grand Championship to their honor roll. Members of the team include, Scott Wood, goalie, Mike Vock, Steve MacInally, Boyd Devereaux, Shaun Anstett, Chris Marion, Mike Hugill, Jason Henderson, Pat Gridzak, Mark McNichol, Charles Robertson, Pat Coyne, Mark Van Doren, Colin Devereaux and Jered Munroe.
