Twp • The Seaforth Junior Belle ringette team played Exeter last week in the finals of the Huron -Perth league playoffs and won 2-1. The game started out at a very fast pace, and continued this way throughout the first period. The•end to end action seemed to go on forever with both goaltenders making great saves. With many good defensive plays made by both teams the game became a goal - tender's duel. ' Then, with just one minute and 56 seconds left in•the first period Seaforth's Tammy Nash biaste(i,tl}ei.ripg.wt t,11 ,k cater goaltender, with theassistgoing to Lonnie McClure. Just 27 se'obnds Tater Nash fed the ring forward to Shelly O'Brien, who outskated the Exeter defence and fired in the second Seaforth goal. The second period proved to be just as • win league exciting. The defensive players and the goaltenders stayed hot. Finally Exeter scored with only two minutes and 37 seconds left to, play. That goal was credited to Cindy Moore, with the assists going to Tina Campbell and Liz Mol. Seaforth took control of the ring for the next two minutes, then Exeter almost scored, but another good defensive play saved the game. Congratulations are extended to the team and coaches. Team members are; Tammy Nash, Jacqueline McNichol, Connie McClure Shealy Nigh, Heather McKercher, Shelly O'Brien, Leanne Whitmore; Amy van den Akker, Sherri Kling, Jennifer Watt, Tracey Sills, Jane Rowcliffe. Coaches are Dave Nigh, Anne Silisand Don McKercher. Junior Belles fare well The Seaforth Junior Belle Ringette team fared well in the Western Region ringette tournament on the weekend. The team finished the tournament with one win, one tie and orle loss. SEAFORTH3-EXECER0 'On Saturday Seaforth met with Exeter in the first game of the regionals. The game proved to be another tough one as onlyonegoal was scored in the first period. Seaforth's Sherri Kling forced her way through the Exeter'denfense and beat their goaltender with a well placed shot in the lower corner. Assists went to Shelly O'Brien and Heather McKercher. Seaforth scored twice more in the second period with goals by Jane Rowcliffe and Jackie McNichol. Assists went to Jackie McNichol and Jennifer Watt. SEAFORTH 3 - WATERLOO 4 The second game Saturday against Water loo'was close and well played, by both teams. Seaforth took three penalties allowing Waterloo to score three goals in thefast period. Seaforth fought back in the second to make up -the- three goals and • Jane Rowcliffe managed to net two and Amy van den Akker the other. Assists went to Jane Rowcliffe, Amy van den Akker, Jennifer Watt and HeatherMcKercher. Waterloo tallied for one more goal in the period to defeat Seaforth 4 to 3, On Sunday Woolwich and Seaforth played a 30 minute end to end game, with each team scoring only two goals. Seaforth goals were scored by Jennifer Watt and Amy Van den Akker. Assists went to Heather McKercher, Amy van den Akker, Jennifer Watt and Jaclde McNichol. The competition was very tough, but for a small town Seaforth proved they are one of the best, Congratulations girls. Novice edge fathers 5 - 4 A much talked about eontestfinally came to reality Friday night- a grudge match between the highly favored fathers and their sons from the Novice hockey team. The early going was filed with numerous scoring dances by the fathers as they sante out flying. However, it was the Novice that got on the board first when Steve Menially muscled his way to the Slot and ripped a shbt past a bewildered Dave Menially, playing goal for the fathers. Kevin (Chevy) Hender- son, who is among the top scorers in the Seaforth IHL, quickly evened the score for the fathers. The sons, with quick goals by Mclnally and Mike Hugill, shot their team into a 3-1 lead. Hut Kevin Henderson, showing some of the offensive skills that have made him a top. scoring threat, took Matters into his own hands andnotchhed fits secondand-third goals of the game to tie the contest at three. Both teams pressed hard for the go-ahead goal, but outstanding goaltending from both sides kept the score deadlocked. A defensive blunder by Ken Devereaux, a stalwart defenseman with the Seaforth Oldtimers,allowed the Novice to take a.4-3 lead. A nifty back pass from an unknown father eluded Devereaux, as he and gbaltender Dave Mclnally were caught napping and the puck trickled into the net. The goal was credited to Chris (Guy) Matron. However; with time running out, Kevin Henderson picked up his fourth goal of- the game .tall •. unassisted) to tie the game again. With only seconds remaining, Steve Mclnally completed an end to end rush and blew another blistering drive past his father ending the game 5-4. The fathers are to be congratulated for a fine effort and for being very -sportsman??? like as they handed down grounding suspensions to. the tons.
