Foundation of Ontario is to provide funds for
research and education to reduce death and
disability from heart disease and stroke,
'The foundation is a non-profit organiza-
tion, led by volunteers, and is active inthree

chapters served byoffices throughout'Ontar-
io. Activities are controlled by a volunteer

from all fund raising programs.
• Approximately 10 per cent or $1,700,000 of
the income generated in Ontario, is directed
to the Canadian. Heart Foundation for
medical; research and education at„ the'
national level.
.. The Foundation supports •a11 Ontario
medical. schools and university '.:medical`
centres • in which research , is carried out.
Projects range front the study of how the
blood coagulates, (clots ) to developing tech-
niques to persuade children not to smoke.
Research funding is allocated through a peer
review system based on the scientific'rrierit of
the.research request. •
In 1985-86, a total number of 138. grants
and personnel were supported..
The. -Heart and Stroke Foundation . of
Ontario, Huron County Chapter, is still
looking for volunteers for the 'February •
campaign to support the research that saves
more lives. If .you are willing to give some
time, and if you live in Stanley, Tuckersmith
or Goderich Townships .contact Nico Peters.
Those who -live in McKillop, Hullett, Grey or
Morris. Townships can contact Walter Mc-
Clure. ' Residents 'of the Seaforth and
Egmondville areas,' will receive 'a pamphlet
asking for support of the Heart and Stroke
Foundation. An addressed -envelope, for
donations will be ineluded: '

personal part in the battle against Canada''s
leading health threats,heart attack and
stroke. These related diseases kill -more-.
people than all .other, causes , of-. death
combined. •
Over the -past quarter century, research
supported by the Heart and Stroke Founda-
tion of Ontario has revolutionized heart
disease and stroke health care. Heart attacks
are down 34 per cent and stroke is down by. 25 •
percent.
In Seaforth and the surrounding area the ,
-=pressing need is for door-to-door canvassers
to join -the 70,000 volunteers across Ontario
who are working to support the'research that
saves more lives.
Stan Connelly, president of the'. Huron
County, Chapter of the Heart and Stroke
Foundation of Ontario, has announced that
this year's objective for Huron County is
$53,000. plusan additional $2,500. for the
. Roberts Research Institute in'London.
