This contribution will help to defray the estimated $1.8 million cost of ini- provements and expansion to the Blyth Memorial Hall. The improvements will in- clude enlarging the backstage area, raised lighting positions, an adequate loading facility, larger dressing rooms and an ex- panded box-office area. Expansion Work to be carried out will allow for larger production workshops, more rehearsal space, working areas for playwrights and space for small meetings and seminars. In a press release, the festival's artistic director, Katherine Kaszas, noted that with the donation, they will be able to begin construction and enter in to Stage 1 of their renovations. She stated, "The overwhelming support of our cotnlstunity in terms of letters of en- dorsement as well as financial contribu- tions has been echoed by the federal government. In less than two months, over $236,000 has been raised from hundreds of individuals for our festival's building capital campaign. "I want to thank Murray Cardiff for his dedication to cultural activities in this area and his outstanding support of the Blyth Festival since its inception nearly 15 years ago. He and his staff have worked diligently on behalf of this project." With an eye to the future, general manager for the theatre, Joel Harris, stated, "The timing of this announcement is very critical to our construction schedule. Our $1.8 million goal is only a million dollars away and we expect the provincial government will be announcing its contribution to this project shortly, as well as the many corporations and founda- tions we have approached." Ironically, the announcement was made during a Murder Mystery Dinner fund raising event for the festival. Marian Doucette, the president of the board, com- mented, "More than one mystery was unveiled tonight." MINE •a•• 111100 MEM Mal IMMO IEM. MOIR EROS .,a MOM PIANO TUNING • REPAIRS.
