Drusilla Leitch, a finess instructor from
Residents at the Seaforth Manor have Seaforth, comes once a month to the Manor,
been staying in tip-top shape with a weekly and has been helping the residents with the
exercise program called "Fun and program for almost one year. She has the
Fitness." residents taking part in several different ex-
ercises 'such as shoulder shrugs, arm and
leg raises, stretches, and rotations of the
head, arms, and ankles.
"The exercises help to strengthen the
muscles that they (the patients) don't nor-
mally use," said Darlene Friesen, the ac-
tivities director at the Manor.
Miss Friesen has been at the Manor for
about one month, and although the program
has already been going on for a few years,
she says the residents really seem to enjoy
doing the exercises, some of which simply
help with the posture of those in wheelchairs
or of those who don't get out of their chairs
very often.
Mary Finlayson, now a part-time
employee at the Manor, says Mrs. Leitch
has really helped residents with her exer-
cise program.
The fitness program is carried out three
times every week, and stresses the use of
muscles which are not as strong as others.
One exercise in particular calls for the ben-
ding and lifting of a plastic cylindrical tube,
by the left or right hand (usually the one
which is not used as often).
"The people try hard to do the exercises
put out in front of them, and," said Miss
Friesen,"it seems to lift their spirits as
well."
Though the exercise craze is mostly
directed to the younger generation, it is ob-
vious with the "Fun and Fitness" program
at the Manor, fitness can be for any age.
FUN AND FITNESS is an activity enjoyed
by many residents of the Seaforth Manor.
Here, Frank Smale participates in one of
the many exercises conducted to help
residents with posture and general living.
