Queensway starts Agricu
Residents of Queensway Nursing Home
in Hensall, previously active in the world
of agriculture, will have the chance to
revive that interest through an Agriculture
Club now offered at the home.
The club, which is expected to meet.
twice a month, was started for the benefit
of the male residents of the home, many of
whom are retired farmers. But, added Ac-
tivities Director Carol Gascho, females in-
terested in joining are more than welcome.
"I really felt the male residents were
getting short changed a little," said Mrs.
Gascho.
"We offer so many .things at .the home
for the women, but few for the men."
"It's kind off an intellectual thing. We
take care of their (the resident's) physical
needs- this is the mental part.'.'
Mrs. Gascho said the idea of an
Agriculture Club seemed a good one, par-
ticularly because so many of the residents
were farmers at one time.
Although no firm agenda has been set for
the meetings, Mrs. Gascho said there is
literature forthcoming from various farm
publications, and other farm organizations
have been contacted to possibly visit the
home. Outings to such places as the local
stockyards havebeen planned, and she
said she expects club members will hold a
debate on the free trade issue some time in
the future.
"The main thing is getting the residents
out to places - places that they've been
before and where they can meet people
that they used to know, but haven't seen in
a while." she said.

"We're kind of reviving the sounds and
smells of the past, and at the same time
promoting an awareness of what's happen-
ing now."
