Swingers win championship
dynamo in ladies slopitchin recent weeks.
In the semi-finals they eliminated last
year's champion Wildcats, 12-9 and 2-1, in
two quick outings. In fact the only trouble
they met in their bid for the championship
came against Manley in the quarter finals.
But after dropping the first game of that
best -of -three series 15-5, the Swingers et-
ched out a 16-15 win, and finally a 5-2
triumph, to set them on their route to
victory.
In the midst of it all the Swingers took
the A Championship of a Slopitch tourna-
ment held in Walton, and the B Champion-
ship of a tournament held in Exeter.

The Seaforth Swingers became the A
Champions of the Ladies Slopitch league
Monday night.
Despite a ninth inning rally by their op-
ponents, the Seaforth. Swingers held on to
win the third and final game of a best of
five championship series against
Slabtown.
Ahead by four runs going into the bottom
half of the final inning, the Swingers grip-
ped onto a narrow 11-10 victory to clinch
the championship. They had beaten Slab -
town in two prior games by scores of 5-1
and 7-6.
In retrospect the Swingers have been a

Great fall golfing ahead
It's hard to believe that the Labor Day
weekend is over and the ankle -biters are
once again back at school! It was a hot sum-
mer but it didn't seem like a long hot sum-
mer. It sure went by in a hurry.
Although the competitive golf season is
winding down, there will be plenty of great
fall days ahead to enjoy the course. The fall
colors, cooler temperatures and more fre-
quent rain will contribute to much better
conditions than we have had this summer.
Now's the time off year to adjust your swing
or stance, try a new potter or set of clubs,
and concentrate on improving your game in-
stead of today's score.
There are still some events to take place.
This Saturday the course will be closed all
day as the annual Men's Invitational Golf
Tournament will be underway. There will be
144 golfers taking part. Brad Walsh of Strat-
ford will attempt to repeat his 1987 victory
--5- _ ...—.ems, e••••
and retain the Commercial Hotel Trophy.
Walsh will have some stiff competition from
low handicappers from London, Pontiac,
Michigan, Oshawa, Pike Lake and other
area clubs.
The men's night closing is Saturday,
September 17 at 2 p.m. with 18 holes of golf
followed by a steak barbecue. The ladies'
closing is Sunday, September 18 at 2 p.m.
with a 9 hole scramble and dinner to follow.
The Match Play events are not complete
yet but should be done by the closing events.
Last week the Owen Sound District
Ladies' Championship was held at Pike
Lake Golf Centre. Ann Adams from
Seaforth won the event. Runnerup was
Kathy McMurdo of Owen Sound. Judy
Hunter of Kincardine and C.A. Doig of
Seaforth tied for third place.
Remember September's a great golf
month, so come on out for a game.
