The Huron Expositor, 1988-09-07, Page 3Good weather, good turnout
make successful Plowing Match
A lot of sod was busted on the Cardiff farm
in Grey Township on the weekend, when the
M.P. for Huron -Bruce hosted the 61st An-
nual Huron County Plowing Match.
Graeme Craig, . a member of the Huron
Plowmen's Association who organized the
event, said the . match was a success in
almost every way this year. He said the
weather was clear for the match, although it
hasn't been singe. The turnout of com-
petitors was excellent with about 45 lands
plowed on Friday, and a total of about 65
lands plowed over both Thursday and Fri-
day. There was also a good turnout of spec-
tators to watch both the plowing and the
Queen of the Furrow competition. And there
were favorable field conditions for plowing,
with more moisture than in some parts of
the county.
The overall senior champion of the plow-
ing match was Paul Dodds of RR 1 Seaforth
and the reserve senior champion was Bevan
Shapton of Exeter. The junior champion
was William Fotheringham of RR 3
Seaforth, while Leanne Whitmore of RR 4
Walton was the reserve junior champion.
Ken Bettles of RR 3 Kippen won the Antique
class.

RR 1 Dublin, Marina Rawlings of RR 1
Zurich, Barbara Fotheringham of RR 3

cash crop and hog farm, and was also active
in 441 and earned Provincial Honors. She is
the daughter of Bob and .Lauren Regele.
Cheryl will be competing again at the Inter-
national Plowing Match in 1989.
The runner-up for the Queen of the Fur-
row title was Marina Rawlings. Marina
graduated from Central Huron Secondary
School last spring and has since been
employed as an admitting receptionist at
the Clinton Public Hospital. In September of
l; i9 she intends to go to college to pursue a
career as a medical receptionist. As runner-
up Marine will fill-in for the Queen if she
can't make it to an event. Marina is the
daughter of Bill and Pat Rawlings.
