Friday evening, August 19, 1988 a concert
and dance were held at the Walton Com-
munity Hall in conjunction with a barbecue
by the Walton Community Hall in conjunc-
tion with a barbecue by the Walton Area
Sports Club at the Ball Park. All was in
celebration of the 50th Anniversary of hav-
ing the hall in this location.
Happy Anniversary were the words
strung over the stage with strings of colored
balloons. Marie McGavin played a melody
of music on the piano to a full house prior to
the concert. Marion Godkin, President of
the Walton Women's Institute was Mistress
of Ceremonies and gave a warm welcome to
everyone present.
Graeme Craig spoke over a P.A. system
back stage announcing the program. He
noted the Huron Corn Huskers were among
the favorite orchestras, and were playing in
the hall on the opening night, 50 years ago.
They would play for a dance from 9 p.m. to 2
a.m., they would get six dollars for their
work.
A variety night was repeated when eight
youngsters did the rooster drill, with Mar-
jory Humphries accompanying at the piano.
Joyce Van Vliet led in a singsong, and Marie
McCutcheon was the piano.
Remember the square dances way back
then, a young group performed to the
delight of their parents.
It was mentioned that when a dance was
on in the Walton Hall, many a young couple
met there to enjoy all the familiar dances,
fox trot, waltz, square dance, etc.
Those present were given a view of the
bobby sox days when four couples showed
how to square dance with Wilfred Shortreed
calling off, accompanied by old favourites
Mildred Travis at the piano and Phyllis Mit-
chell with her violin.
The hall has held many a Women's In-
stitute meeting since being formed back n
1957. It has had many facelifts since then.

IDuring the wheat harvest,
we became aware that Cook's
competitive allowance was not matching
incentives offered by our corrtpetitors.

Cook's has worked hard to develop a
reputation for fair, straight -forward dealings.
Producers have been able to deliver their
crop or purchase their crop inputs knowing
we would always be competitive.
We also want you to know exactly -
what you're getting for your crop. That's
why Cook's competitive allowance will
continue to be stated "upfront" where it
can easily be understood and compared.
We will not "tinker" with the grading system
in order to provide delivery incentives.
The grading system for all
commodities was put in place through
the combined efforts of producer
organizations, The Grain and Feed Dealers'
Assodation, and The Canada Grain
Commission. Cook's will not undermine
the credibility of this system in order
to provide hidden premiums.
1hk will always endeavour to offer you
a straight -forward, upfront, competitive price.
At Cook's, we want to be known
as the place "where you can trade with
confidence".
lAt look forward to your continued
patronage this fall.
