The church was decorated with postures made by the children. Guests were ushered by the children. Margaret O'Reilly, president of the Catholic Women's League, presented each child with a rosary and First Communion Certificate on behalf of the league. COLUMBAN CWL The St. Columban C.W.L. held its June Walton discussion centres Walton Correspondent MRS. BETTY McCALL 887-6677 The Walton unit held their June meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Mit- chell, Wednesday evening. Gloria Wilbee opened the devotions and Margery Huether assisted at the organ for the hymns. The scripture was in the form of a skit by Donna McClure and Gloria Wilbee giving a medita- tion. Donna gave a reading on the theme - For Land's Sake. The offering was received and dedicated: Phyllis Mitchell had a video on the farm- ing crisis and papers were passed around as a quiz followed with a discussion on farm facts. Marie Coutts conducted the business, thanking Phyllis for the use of her home. Audrey Hackwell read the minutes of the last meeting then took the roll call. Twenty- two ladles answered on the role of the rural Dublin priest celebrates 45Y ears woman. Doreen Hackwell gave the treasurer's report, then copper contest leaders, Gloria Wilbee and Audrey Hackwell gave their report for each side. The kitchen was to be cleaned on the Thurs- day morning with the board meeting to be at Keith and Gloria Wilbee's home Sunday evening. Unit I is responsible for flowers to be put in the church for the month of June. Dates were given out for luncheons for the Blyth Festival with the first one on June 23, the other two on September 1 to 8. There will be no meetings for the summer months, the U.C.W. executive meeting is set for Sept. 7. Bothanits will meet on September 14. The meeting was closed with the Lord's Prayer, and a social half hour followed with lunch served by Ruth Thamer, Margery Huether and the hostess. W.I. Notes The ham noon luncheon will be held in the hall this Wednesday. Don MacRae attended the Ontario Annual meeting of the Canadian Postmasters and Assistants Association in Woodstock on June 4-7,. Don was appointed the assistant to the director of C.P.P.A. Eileen MacRae accompanied Don to Woodstock for a few days holidays and visited with her cousin, Marie and Earl Sutherland, while there. Don and Eileen MacRae attended the an: nual Turner Reunion at the Mitchell Lions Park on Sunday. Home for the reunion were David and Sharon, Mark and Jennifer Pell- ing and friend Rick from Meaford, also Bill and Kathy, Tracy and Chad Wolfe. Mrs. Ada Davidson, Mrs. MacRae's mother, of the Ritz Villa, Mitchell, is the on- ly surviving member of the five Turner sisters of which this reunion started. She, however, was unable to attend due to failing eyesight. Several relatives did visit her at the Ritz Villa, however. Get well wishes go to Joe Dorsey who is now home from hospital. Marg O'Reilly, president, opened the meeting with prayer followed by the minutes and the' treasurer's report. Marg O'Reilly,' Ang Swart, Carol Ryan and Marianne Feeney attended the C.W.L. Convention held in Sarnia in May. Carol Ryan reported on the talk given by Fr. Michael Prieur on the need for public awareness about organ donations and transplants. Plans were finalized for the June Social on Wednesday, June 15 (tonight) at 8 p.m. in the church hall. Ladies from the surroun- ding area are all welcome to attend. There will be entertainment, penny sale, bake sale, draw for quilt and other prizes, door prizes and lunch. A parish picnic is planned for Sunday, August 14, more details later. Father Sipek spoke briefly on how pleased he is with the work and support of the C. ! .L. in the parish and community, something that was new to him until he came to St. Columban three years ago. The meeting adjourned and closed with prayer. 50TH ANNIVERSARY Congratulations are extended to Father Joseph L. O'Rourke, a resident of Hillside Nursing Home and formerly of Stratford and McKillop Twp., who celebrated 50 years id the priesthood. An open house sponsored by St. Joseph's Parish Council, Stratford was held in the Parish Hall on Sunday after- noon. Many friends and relatives attended from this area. PEOPLE Get well wishes go out to Mary Melady, a patient in University Hospital and Joseph Ryan, a patient in the Stratford Hospital. On June 3, 1988 Don Melady was awarded the Degree of Doctor of Medicine at Alumni Hall, University of Western Ontario. On June 5 about 45 people of Don's family, friends and some of his professors, gathered at the home of his parents, Frances and Ed- ward Melady to congratulate Don. Lunch was served followed' by an afternoon of visiting. Highlight of the afternoon was a hay ride through the fields to the river. Don is entering the Family Medicine pro- gram at the University of Toronto and will be working at Women's College Hospital, Toronto for the next two years. on farms chener last Thursday.
