JOHN TEMPLEMAN 345-2346 Staffa Women's Institute members gathered at the township hall op Thursday evening for a business meeting. Roberta Templeman presided opening with a poem, "Little Things". The 85th anniversary of the Staffa WI is to be held in the township hall on Wednesday, May 25 and plans were finalized for the afternoon's entertainment and lunch. Members were reminded of the District Annual being hosted by Sebringville Women's Institute on May 17 and Staffa members duties at it. They include assisting St. Pauls in serving coffee during registra- tion and bringing gifts for the Ladies Divi- sion of the International Plowing Match. Staffa is also responsible for extending an invitation to host the 1989 District Annual. Grace Kerslake presented her report on the plowing match food booth, telling what they would like Staffa women to do, and ask- ing how many would volunteer to help. The Institute decided to sponsor someone for the Queen of the Fair competition at Mit- chell Fair. Any girl between 17 and 24 years of age should give then a call if they are interested. Everyone received their printed programs for 1988-9, thanks to program coordinator Joyce Vivian. HIBBERT WOMEN The May meeting of the Ribbert United Church Women, was held in the Family Life Centre with Nancy Dearing and Sandra Kemp in charge of devotions and program. They used as their theme, "Spring Again" and showed a film on spring scenes in British Columbia. Chairperson for the business portion was Verle Mahon. For their June meeting members decided to eat out in Mitchell. Plans were finalized for the annual ham and strawberry supper to be held in the Family Life Centre on Wednesday, June 8. The Bimini Camping experience slated for later 1 in June was discussed. Everyone enjoyed a lunch served by Ada Pethick and Joy Dearing. I PEOPLE The Templeman family members par- ticipated in a slowpitbhe co-ed tournament in Mitchell on the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Young,ungannon,��� Mr. and Mrs. Don Culbert and family, Port Albert, Philip Young and familjr, Dungan- non and Mr. and Mrs. Carter Kerslake, Mit- chell attended Cromarty Presbyterian Church on Sunday when "Allan Carter Kerslake", son of Craig and r'eggy Kerslkae, was welcomed into thn 1 Lurch during the sacrament of Baptism, uy the Reverend Lucie Milne. She was assisted by Jean Carey, clerk of Session. The were later both dinner guests of Craig, Peggy, Heather, Ian and Allan Kerslake. Dublin students fare well in track Dublin Correspondent MRS. DON MACRAE 345-2842 or 345-2140 Sympathy of the community goes to the family of Mr. Gilbert Murray who died last Thursday. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Saturday at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church with Father Carrigan. Burial was in St. Columban Cemetery. Congratulations to track and field athlete Joe Looby, the son of Mrs. Margaret Looby of Dublin, who was the top athlete at the Track and Field Championships last week at the Regina Nandi High School in Mid- dlesex where he is a senior student. Joe was the top runner in the 400 -metres in 52.2 seconds to break the record over last year and he anchored the 4 x 100 metre relay team to win in 45.2 seconds, which was 0.6 seconds under the old mark. Joe also won the 100 metre run in 11.4 seconds and was one of the team winners in the individua champions. Mrs. Eileen MacRae had a number of celebrations for her mother, Mrs. Ada Davidson, Ritz Villa, Mitchell, on her 92nd birthday on May 13th. Her nieces came to visit on her day, which were Beth McEwen, Stratford; Ann Frances, Mitchell; and many cards and phone calls from her family and relatives. On Saturday evening, Mrs. Davidson was able to visit the MacRaes in Dublin for din- ner with Eileen's brother Orval from West Hill. Keith, another brother from Kitchener, was unable to attended due to illness. On Sunday, Orval and Eileen spent a few hours with Mrs. Davidson and she enjoyed a drive out to the country. Other than failing eyesight, Mrs. David- son is in good health for her (young) age of 92. Thanks to everyone who remembered her with cards and phone calls. Mrs. Rose Boryswick and children Tami, Grant and Daniel of Stratford were witl) her parents Joe and Olga Eckert on Sunday and on Monday, daughter Mrs. Judy Emms also of Stratford visited. Junior Farmers crown queen The Perth County Junior Farmers crgwn- ed a new queen at the Atwood Community Centre at their annual Spring Fling dapce recently. Sharon Fell, representing the Mitchell Junior Farmers, was awarded the title "Miss Perth County Junior Farmer." Last year's winner, Marlyne Denham of Kirkton, crowned Miss Fell, of RR 2 Staffa. Other contestants were Patty Ehgoetz of the Stratford Junior Farmers, who was chosen first runner-up; Patty Elliot of the Listowel Junior Farmers and Jennifer Schmidt representing the Milverton Junior Farmers. Miss Fell is a graduate of Mitchell District High School (MDHS) and is presently atten- ding Conestoga College's Stratford campus where she hopes to graduate in November with a diploma in nursing. She is the daughter of Helen and Lojne Fell of Staffa, and is a member of 4-11 and her hobbies include gardening, reading, sewing and playing the piano. St. Columban honors brides-to-be St. Columban Correspondent MRS. CECILIA RYAN 345-2028 A miscellaneous bridal shower was held on Sunday afternoon in the St. Columban Church hall for Joyce Sloan. The shower, given by Sandra Sloan and Louise Nolan was attended by relatives, neighbors and friends of the bride-to-be. Joyce received many useful gifts and thanked everyone for them after which the ladies enjoyed a very delicious lunch. Joyce will be married to John Devereux on July 16. The St. Columban neighbors of Mary Kurtz had a get-together on Sunday at lion and Mary Ryan's Roost prior to her leaving St. Columban. Steve Murray said a few approprf to words and Mary was presented with a pair of brass candleholders. Mary and her friend will be married the end of May and will be living in St. Thomas.
