The Huron Expositor, 1988-05-04, Page 19THE HURON EXPOSITOR, MAY 4, 1988 — 19 Residents celebrate May Day with plant sale 'Birthday Greetings' to Margaret Smale, who celebrated her birthday last Wednes- day. She and her husband Frank celebrated with a dinner together at Chipper's Restaurant. In the evening they treated all the residents and staff of Seaforth Manor to ice cream. Worship services were conducted Wednesday by the Reverend Cheryl Ann Stadelbauer-Sampa. Minna Scott accom- panied at the piano for the hymns and also assisting were Mervyn and Helen Nott and Olive Papple. Tuesday morning student volunteers from Seaforth Public School assisted with wheelchair bowling and in the aftern000n a film on families was viewed on the video. Thursday was euchre with volunteers assisting. High ladies score was Mamie Ross and high man, Frank Smale. Lone hands prize was won by Patrick Ryan and consolation prizes went to Edith Sato and Ed Dunn. Lunch was provided by Marjorie Maloney and prizes by Mary McIver. Friday afternoon was bingo and lucky bingos were won by Verda Cameron, Dennis Arney, Ila Gardner, Frank Smale, Elmer Bakcsy, Wilma Brill, Marjorie Ryan, Margaret Smale, Eva Netzke, Edith Salo and Marguerite Shill. To celebrate May Day a successful plant sale was held on Monday, May 2. Mabel Handy assisted in selling of plants. In charge of a residents' draw for a bouquet of flowers was Mamie Ross. The draw for staff was in the charge of Margaret Smale and Mary Catherine Lane drew the winning tickets of Edith Salo for the residents and Joanne Flanagan, for the staff prize. PEOPLE Ethel Griffin of London visited her sister Mabel Handy. Mrs. Donnie Smith visited the Nursing Home last Tuesday and distributed Brucefield couple is 50 years wed 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY - Walter and Retta Baird of Brucefield, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, April 23, 1988 at the Orange Hall in Clinton. •Over 100 people attended. The Barids were married April 16, 1938. In attendance were Walter's brother Norman B,aird of Brucefield, Retta's brother Victor Taylor of Clinton, and all but two of the Baird's 19 nieces and nephews. Niece Elaine Worsell organized the celebration with assistance from Audrey Stanley (also a niece) and Mrs. Baird's friend Jean McEwen, The party, corsages, cake and guest book were compliments of the Victor Taylor family. The hall was decorated with a special wedding cake, 50 red roses, white tablecloths, various flower arrangements, a special banner, and pictures of the couple photographed through the years,.P,laquea.and,lettQ'fp recognlzirjg.the an- niversary were presented to the couple from the provincial and federal government. Speeches were given by niece and nephews - Arnold Taylor, Bill Taylor, Thelma Jones and Morley Taylor. Guests enjoyed games of cards and a pot luck dinner. Cassie Nicholson was visited by her daughter Barbara Alexander and daughter- in-law Beryl. Mr. and Mrs. Syd Scroggs visited with Madge Reines. Len Bloomfield enjoyed an outing to Lon- don with Peg and Cleave Coombs. He also visited Parkwood Hospital. Olive Papple visited her friend (Edith Jessome. Maria Goovert went out for a drive on Fri- day with her daughter Elsa Ruston. She at- Maplewood®s bingo wi ers given tickets Students from the family studies class from Seaforth District High School visited Maplewood last Monday morning. They sponsored a bingo which was very well at- tended. Prizes were won by Pete Tremeer, Anna Sherrin, Ed Johns and Elsie Shad - dick. Residents who did not participate in the bingo had a visit from several of the students. Euchre was the name of the game last Tues lay afternoon for residents of Maplewood. The door prize was won by Anne Crerar. Wednesday morning there was a good attendance at the church service. Rev. Barber from the Presbyterian church led the worship while Winona McDougall ac- companied on the piano. Residents gathered in the sitting room on Thursday morning to listen as Marion Rose played many beautiful pieces on the piano. Her talents are greatly appreciated by everyone. Friday afternoon Ruth Bock came to Maplewood fpr bingo. The lucky winners were Anna Sherrin, Isa Stanley, Ann Agar and Elva Ellis. They won Wintario tickets. This week residents and staff welcome Ted Visser to Maplewood Manor. Birthday greetings to Edna Lloyd who celebrated her birthday on Sunday, April 24. Welcome back to Ise Stanley from Seaforth hospital. Zteueits tended church with her on Sunday. Visiting with Inez Spittal were her son and Elsie Southgate. Norma Jeffrey was visited by Sheila Morton. Ethel Heist visited Frank and Margaret Smale and Mamie Ross last Tuesday. Visiting with Edith Jessome during the week were her grandchildren Carl and Shawna, Nelson and Trevor Jessome and son Bernie. Also on the weekend her daughter Suzanne, Dwight, Keisha and Kyle of St. Catherines visited with her. Visiting with Marjorie Ryan were Jack and Monica Ryan, Anne and Jerry Ryan, her husband Laurence and granddaughter Colleen. Lenny Bloomfield was out to Rita Moylan's home for supper on Sunday evening. Edith Jessome was out for lunch on Satur- day to her son Bernie's. Lois Hodgert visited with her mother An- nie Harrison. Rose Altman and Nancy and Amy Bos visited with the Netzkes on Saturday. Mary K. Ryan was visited by her grand- daughter Anne Wilson on Thursday, and on Friday she spent the day with George and Teresa Simpson. Mamie Ross was visited by Helen Kirby.
