Boy scouts receive woodsman badges

The sympathy of the community goes out
to the family of the late Mr. Peter Maloney
Sr., who passed away last week and the
funeral service was postponed to Monday,
February 15th in Dublin. Mass was
celebrated by Father Carrigan.
Congratulations to Mr. Alex Roney,
Dublin, on the arrival of his sixth great-
grandchild–a boy, born to Neil and Kathy
Bunting (Kathy Roney). Also a grandson to
Margaret and Franklin Roney, Staffa.
I am holidaying in Mitchell for a week
with my grandchildren Tracy and Chad
Wolfe and my son Bill. My daughter-in-law
Kathy and her girlfriend Audrey Hoff of
Brodhagen are off to Florida to spend a
week with Audrey's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Hodgert in St. Petersburg.
The First Cromarty Boy Scouts held their
regular meeting in the Cromarty church.
Scout Shane Dale received his B.P.
Woodsman badge while Scout Brian Wad-
dell received his sports, science and fitness
badge. Brian now has a silver chain. Scout
Mike Dearing received his agriculture
badge and Scout Steven Dearing received
his Modler badge. Scout Jason Fleming
reports that the Scouts Winter Camp -out has
been postponed until the winter of 1989 due
to the inclement weather the past few
weekends.

St. Columban CWL holds party

The St. Columban Catholic Women's
League held a Valentine card party and
potluck lunch on Sunday evening in the
parish hall with fourteen tables playing
euchre.
The winners were: ladies' high. Margaret
Lane; low, Anne Chapin; men's high, Jim
Maloney; low, Raymond Murray and for the
most lone hands, Jim Maloney.
After the card game a potluck lunch was
enjoyed by all. Mary McMillan won a prize
for sitting on the lucky chair.
EUCHRE PARTY
Seven tables were in play on Friday even-
ing at the Knights of Columbus euchre game
in the K. of C. hall in St. Columban.
The winners of heart' shaped boxes of
chocolates were: ladies' high, Mary
Maloney; low, Mildred Cronin; men's high,
Stephen Hicknell; low, Gerry O'Reilly and
Charlene Delaney won for the most lone
hands.
The next game will be Friday, February
19 at 8 p.m. in the K. of C. Hall in St. Colum -
ban. Everyone is welcome.

Melady on Saturday evening to a game of
cards.
Jerry and Heather Cronin and Clarence
and Cecilia Ryan enjoyed a game of cards
with Alphonse and Annie Cronin on Satur-
day evening.
Congratulations go out to Tom and Lynn
Burke on the birth of their third child, a
daughter at the Stratford Hospital and to the
grandparents Mrs. Rose Burke of Stratford
and Roy and Angeline Swart of St.
Columban.
Congratulations to Mary Moylan on the
birth of her grandson, born to Gordon and
Kathryn Moylan of St. Mary's.

held its annual meeting on Sunday, January
25, in the Family Life Centre. Pastor
Deborah Hockstra, was named congrega-
tional chairperson for 1988. Robert I. Norris
was re-elected congregational secretary.
The 1988 Session are, Spencer Jeffery,
Donald Johns, Gwen Harburn,Jack
Christie, Margaret Christie, Arthur Kemp,
Gary Kemp and Robert I. Norris.

All church organizations presented their
reports to the meeting and were accepted by
the congregation. These reports indicated
that Hibbert United Church had had a very
succeslful year.

Doris Miller and Roberta Templeman
visited Monday with their sister, Jean
Mauer, Exeter.
County book circulation increased
Beth Ross, Huron County chief librarian,
told County Council, in her report, the
November circulation was 30,538 books up
1,331 over the same period last year. The
yearly circulation was down by 13,927 to
352,892.
