From all ap- pearances the mother on the left is ecstatic, but she shouldn't be - it wasn't her team who scored. Junior Belles win playoff game The Seaforth Jr. Belles met Exeter Fri- day in Seaforth for the first game of the playoffs. Exeter came on the ice full force, with the thought of winning on their minds, and at the 9:52 mark scored the first goal. Seaforth fought back andust one minute later Sheri Kling scored to tie the game unassisted. The action was fast and from end to end. At the 7:24 mark Lisa Henderson, fighting her way down the ice, made a pass to An- drea Ribey who scored Seaforth's second goal. Exeter took a tripping penalty which allowed Seaforth to try their power line. At the face off Lisa Henderson made a quick pass to Tammy Nash who blasted the ring into the net even before the goalie had time to set up. The second period also proved to be very exciting as Seaforth tallied fqr four more goals. The Seaforth goaltending by Sara Teall and her defence players kept the Ex- eter team off the scoreboard in the second period. The final score Seaforth 8, Exeter 2. Goals were scored by Tammy Nash with three, Sheri Kling two, and Melissa Whit- more, Lisa Henderson and Andrea Ribey each with one. Assists went to Lisa Hender- son with three, Tammy Nash with two, Sheri Kling 2, and Melissa Whitmore, Susan Rocliffe, Heather McKercher each with one. The girls' next game of the series will be played Thursday night in Hensall. Mohawks take over lead in Seniors bowling Friday Harvey Dow's Mohawks took over the lead on Friday at Seniors Bowling defeating the Iroquois 7-0. They also had the high team total for the day with 2999. Hazel McGonigle of the Haidas had the high ladies score for the day with a 298 single and 619 triple. Other ladies scores were Dorothy McCluskie 582 and Mary Finlayson 574. For the men Andy Lunn was high man with 626 followed by Art Finlayson with 604 and Oliver Pryce 586. Team Standings are: Mohawks - 29, Sioux = 28, Haidas - 22, Hurons - 18, Glees -15 and Iroquois -14. Winthrop scrapes by Perth 2-1 LADIES BROOMBALL WINTHROP 2 - PERTH 1 Perth's Karen McLagan was in the limelight as she got credit for this deflected goal into the Winthrop net. Passing came from Kathy McPhail and Paula Sereda. What a combo by Jean Haggitt and Gretzky who tied the g e up and with 41 seconds re- maining in the ame. Haggitt boomed her Tigers gain in bowling race By George Love The Tigers moved to within seven points of the first place Cougars in St. James Bowl- ing League action bowled at Starlight Lanes on February 8. The Tigers downed the Jaguars 5-2, with top scores being bowled by George Love 290, 252, 698; Carol Johnston 218, 230 - 638, San- dra Campbell 205 - 587 and Karen Hoegy 204 - 517. Gerry Armstrong led the Jaguars with 246.661, Pat Kenny 214 - 562, Michelle ll newies 228 - 541 and Jeff Bridge 210 - 518. Meanwhile the Cougars came out the losers 7-0 to the Panthers. High bowlers for the Panthers were Dan Bennewies 249- 241 - 664, Lynne Coombs 271-643, Jim Dalrymple 219, 228.632, and Olave Little 256545. Don Nolan led the Cougars with 278-6'24; Richard Love 185 - 522, and Sharon McGrath 172 - 496. The Lions topped the Leopards 5-2 with Murray Bennewies 285, 224 - 700, and Brenda Kenny 197-574 leading the way. Terry Morey 231-606, Sandy Broadfoot 230-569 and Ken Moran 206-550, were best for the Leopards. Jr. Farmers ladies must have had air, off night, as they -have not had a high seae against=them in. quite awhile. QUEENS 0 - PARR LINE 1 This game was quite an improvement for the Queens compared to the week before, but they still could not pound that ball into the Parr Line net. However, Parr Line's Sue Ann VanMiltenburg seemed to have the knack, scoring with a little help from the op- posing goalie. Deb Hemlock assisted. Tonight at 9'p.m. Parr Line vs Queens, at 9:50 p.m. Winthrop vs Commercial, and "10:40 p.m. Jr. Farmers vs Perth. Superior team play was the biggest con- tributor to the win. Anzrea Gingerich's goaltending scenes set the pace, sure, steady and easy as you go. Exeter counted the first goal halfway through the first period with a great side shot from Cheyenne Westlake. Tracy Fortuns played a very defensive game and also started the scoring for Seaforth with 15 seconds left in the first and Local bowlers place in Memorial tourney BY GEORGE LOVE The Don McWhinney Memorial Bowling Tournament was held at the Crown Lanes in Clinton on Sunday. Forty-eight bowlers from many areas such as Goderich, Clinton, Seaforth, Mitchell, Stratford, Dorchester and Wingham participated in the tourna- ment. All bowlers bowled five games with the top 32 advannccing. From this point it was elimination with game 6 - 32 bowlers. Game 7 -16 bowlers. Game 8 - 8 bowlers. Game 9 - 4 bowlers and Game 10-2 bowlers. The winner of the tournament was George Collins from Clinton. Second was Nancy Atkinson of Clinton; third George Love of Walton and fourth Murray Bennewies of Seaforth. Bennewies leads Tiger's in intertown bowling BY GEORGE LOVE Seaforth Tigers lost to Clinton 31-17 in Men's Intertown Bowling League action bowled at Clinton on February 13. Bob Atkinson was the leader for Clinton with high games of 304, 241, 268 - 1213, George Sweeney 258, 216, 229, 245, 240 -11; s ; Bill Strong 279, 223, 249 -1161 and Steve Gib- bings 245, 233, 244 -1131. Murray Bennewies led Seaforth with high games of 282, 237, 316 -1236; Bill Wilson 241, 234, 259, 243, 232-1209; Jack Fuller 242, 220, 238 -1075 and Roger Edwards 226, 234 -1060. Seaforth outplayed Exeter the complete game, mostly due to strong defense played by Rau, Kerry McMillan, Robyn Carnochan and Melody Turner. If a star for the game was picked it would have gone to the Exeter goalie. The second of the two out of three series was played last night. Results were unknown at press time. A third game if necessary will be played Sunday at home.
