Legion. There was a great turnout for the event with 15 tables of players. Winners were
Ladies' High, Mary Dalrymple; Ladies' Low, Grace Smith; Men's High, Gertrude
Driscoll; Men's Low, Rose Ryan; Ladies' Lonehand Annie McNichol; Men's Lonehand,
Isabel Hunt. At this table Warren Wray punches a low hand at the table of Sam' Mc-
Clure, Mary McClure, Gordon Papple, and Mary Dalrymple. The Junior Farmers will be
sponsoring more euchre in upcoming months. Corbett photo.
Egg prices up one cent
The price paid to farmers for Grade A
large eggs in February will increase by one
cent in all provinces, according to the Cana-
dian Egg Marketing agency, (CEMA).
The increase is attributed to higher feed
costs
in all provinces
The prices are set at the beginning of each
month using a cost of production formula
and are reported in advance to the federal
government's National Farm Products
Marketing Council.

MENS BROOMBALL
WINTHROP 3, RUSTLERS 0
Kevin Wheeler's obstinate flip shot over
the Rustler goalie's head was a blessing
because after trying and trying he succeed-
ed in scoring. The pass, ,me from Brian
Pryce. Reaching out for a pass from Steve
Knight was Neil Mitchell. The broom of
Fred McClure was credited on another goal.
The pass was from Dave Hulley. The Red
Rustlers coach was a little disappointed on
his players' performance as no goals were
scored.
KNIGHTS 3 CHISELHURST 1
Knights' Joe Vink deluded the Chiseihurst
goalie with his fraudulent shot on net and
managed to overpower the goalie's glove
hand. At Joe's aid was Jim Nyenhuis. Larry
Bertens conducted with great assurance on
this swerve shot on net and scored
unassisted. A corner shot on a cinch angle
was the highlight goal for Chiselhurst. Don
Nicholson was the interpreter, with the help
from Ben Driscoll.
RATS 3 DUMPERS S
With only a minute of action in the game
Ed VanMiltenburg of the Rats did a wierd
trick and flipped a shot over the goalie's
head. Help came from Steve Eckert Jr. and
Robert Bunking. "Tatoo" or Robert
McGregor blows a shot from the blue line.
His back up was Steve Haggitt and Jeff
Allen. Stephen Eckert keeps on shooting and
shooting and is ,Wally rewarded. He is
helped by Bill Brown Jr., and Jeff Allen.

hat trick. Cairns
Dolmage and Dale Kennedy were by his
side. Gard Dick was delighted to see his
goal. Sticking dose to help was Jim Nash.
Falconer rink
wins bonspiel
Two Vanastra rinks competed in the
Robbie Bunts Ladies Curling Bonspiel in
Seaforth on January 20 with Julie
Falconer's rink of Brenda Jarrett, Sandy
Hayter and Mary Fotheringham capturing
top place in both draws and receiving the
overall trophy.
Audrey Triebner's rink also displayed
excellent curling and were very close
behind them.
Some younger members of our club par-
ticipated in a Ladies' Spiel in Exeter and
placed second in their draw Lori Col -
clubman skipped with members Janet
McBeath, Christine Cooper and Barb
Fotheringham.
The Seaforth Curling , club hosted the
Mixed Seniors' Competition for Zone 13 on
January 23 and 24. Vanastra was
represented by Bob Allan, Joyce Wilson,
Doris Cantelon and Stu Wilson. Our presi-
dent had difficulty curling because of
"skirts".
Mark Cantelon, Sue Beard, Brad
Falconer, and Mary Hayward enjoyed a
weekend of competitive curling in the
Seagram's Five Star Mixed at the Grey
Granite Club, Owen Sound. They beat out
Harriston lost to Chesley, beat out Kincar-
dine and lost to Southampton. Great curl-
ing in such stiff competition!
The Huron County Holstein Club joined
together in their first curling Fun Spiel on
January 21. A great day was had by all
thanks to the organizer, Bob Vodden.
Perhaps a few blisters and sore muscles
were evident at chore time.
mballers shut out Rustlers
On command Larry Dolmage shoots a
satisfactory shot on net that scores. Dale
Kennedy assisted.
RAIDERS 3 GRADS 2
What has come over this team as trooper
Jeff Campbell of the Raiders marches down
through centre ice manouvering around
bodies and scoring two goals. Help came
from Ken Decorte. Cadet Steve Vandyke
needed no backupas he blasted a shot from
the blue line to score another point. Lining
up at the blue line the Grads Tony
Vandenheuvel drills the ball to the net and
scores a goal. Help came from Craig
Kerslake and Al Haid. Younger brother
Mike Vandenheuvel proved he was also
capable of scoring a goal. His help came
from Tony Vandenheuvel and Craig
Kerslake.
ROYALS 2 MUSTANGS 2
Murray Siemon shoots on an unbelievable
angle and scores a goal unassisted. Two feet
in front of the goalie, Dave Leonhardt didn't
want to miss the net so blasts a shot by the
goalie for a sure goal. Passing came from
John Shade and Murray Siemon. Wade
Riley, a defenseman, ,needed no help as he
followed through with a shot on net and
scored. But the highlight of the game came
from•Chuck Dow as he takes a dive at the
ball hoping to hit it in the right direction of
the net, not knowing he scored as he was flat
on the Ice after being cEeckea. He scored
with only five seconds left on the clock to tie
the game up. Darryl Mitten and John
Hamilton were by his side.
On Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Parr Lane vs
Raiders; 8:20 p.m. Winthrop vs Royals; 9:10
p.m. Dumpers vs Chiselliurst; 10:00 p.m.
Grads vs Red Rustlers and 10:50 p.m.
Knights vs River Rats. Mustangs sit out.
' LADIES BROOMBALL '
QUEENS 2 COMMERCIAL 0
Cheryl Kruse finally does the trick scoring
a quick goal with the help of Brenda Erripy
and Jean Haggitt. Marg Henderson scores a
second goal from just around the corner of
the net. Passing came from Juanetta Knight
and Sharon Murray. Those Commercial
Ladies were in full tilt and raring to go with
plenty of chances on scoring. "Mo" played a
superb gamein net.
FARMERS 0 WINTHROP 2 •
Smooth defenceman Marg Flanagan
moves up through her teammates and blasts
the ball directly at the net. Credit also goes
to her other partner on defence, Marie
Leonhardt. Dianne Bennett also slithers
through without being noticed and pops the
ball into the net. Help came from Janet
Nicholson and the amazing Susan (Gretzky)
or was it Hulley Jr. Farmers are getting
tougher to play against. What a team they
have when they are altogether. -
PARR LINE 4 PERTH 0
Joan Henderson it seems is back from her
holiday from scoring as she accumulates a
hat trick. Great backup from Lorri Symons,
Sandi Fremlin and Dianne Shapton. Glenda
Howson grasps a fancy goal to help with the
scoreboard. Passing came from Sharon
Whitefield and Lori Hill. Perth Ladies show-
ed great esteem for the first period of the
game but not as much in the second period.
This was when Parr Lines opportunity of
scoring came about.
Tonight at 9 p.m. Commercial vs Jr.
Farmers; 9:50 p.m. Queens vs Parr Line
