The Seaforth Novice hockey team won
four straight hockey games to capture the
1988 North American Silver Stick Cham-
pionship tournament, played in Michigan on
the weekend.
The Novice beat Behnont twice and
Fraser, Michigan and Troy, Ohio each once
to win the title.
SEAFORTH 7 -TROY 0
Seaforth's Chris Marion started the pen-
dulum swinging, when he scored the local
team's first goal of the tournament, against
Troy, Ohio. He was unassisted.
e Less than one minute later Shaun Anstett,
also unassisted, pocketed a goal, then
seconds later pocketed another. Brent
Hulley scored a third Seaforth goal with
nine seconds remaining in the first period.
In the second period the Seaforth team
played a more defensive game. Anstett got
in Silver Stick
the only goal of the period to secure his hat
trick. He was assisted by Brandon Nash.
In the third period Mark Van Dooren
scored off a beautiful pass from Pat Gridzak
and Chris Marion scored his second goal of
the game.
The Player of the Game award went to
Anstett.
SEAFORTH 7-FRASER 0

score against Fraser, Michigan in the se-
cond game of the tournament.
As in the previous game Anstett delivered
the first goal of the game. He was assisted
by Jason Smith and Pat Coyne.
The next goal came in the second period
when Van Dooren finished off a perfect pass
from Pat Gridzak. Chris Marion also scored
in the second period after he stole the puck
on a neat defensive play in his zone, and

bining to score two of those goals, within 23
seconds of each other - Ansett scored his se-

and Anstett. The sixth goal was scored by
Jered Munro on a shot from the point. The
play was started, with a perfect pass from

The Swingers also remained silent and

the beginnings of an end of season slump or
did they simply miss Erich's soft touch?

Of course we aren't and all of the personal
records broken tonight give weight to that
statement. Dazzling Don Deighton broke the
elusive 300 barrier for the first time this
year with a scorching 316 capturing the
men's weekly high single, while Murray
(the neph) Bennewies bowled a 791 triple to
collar the men's weekly high triple.
Deb (bet you a quarter) Barry cornered
the women's weekly high single with an im-
pressive 248 and the women's weekly high
triple with an awesome 634. With 10 weeks to
go those coveted bowling shoes are all but
yours Deb. Keep that average soaring.
Kathy (the other half) Wright bowled a
season's personal high single 171 - (watch
out Bob, she's on the move).
Resisting an urge to undertake some
creative accounting I give you the final
season's standings: Swingers - 78, Wingers -
72, Highballers - 66, Team Three - 61, Expos
- 51, Misfits - 44. Congratulations to Doug
Procter, Erich Mateold, Joanne Knights,
John Jansen and last but not least Janice
(anchor person) Leonhart for a successful
season.
