To celebrate the
engagement of one
Neil Matheson to one
Judy Scott the writer
of this column has
gone out for
runner & champagne.
Said Elbert "It is a wise guy
who does not monkey with
his destiny"
little more seriously and try and figure out
what I was going to do after 1 finished school.
This too was reflected on my columns as 1
began to write more serious columns.
It was in grade 12 that 1 started to realize
and thus write about the importance of being
kind to others and doing something useful
with my life. There were a few weeks that 1
focused on topical issues or funny "That's
life" situations but the majority of my
columns in 1983 were columns written in the
hope that even just one person would look
seriously at himself/herself and try to find
something that they could do to help someone
else. It doesn't have to take a lot of money,
time or effort to make someone happy.
Another change in grade 12 was that 1
covered less school news in my column. It was
in the beginning of grade 12 that I helped to
start the high school page, The Junction.
There were 20 members in this club and 1
think they did a great job lasbyear in keeping
parents and friends informed of what was
happening in the high school. Unfortunately
the high school page is no longer running this
year.
This brings me to this year. 1 am in grade 13
and will soon be turning 19. I have many more
concerns now than I did when 1 first began
writing this column. 1 look different, I act
differently, I even think differently but 1 still
enjoy writing as I did then. In the fall 1 will be
heading to Lambton College in Sarnia to
begin a two year course in Radio Television
and Journalism Arts. I am looking forward to
this very much and am quite nervous and
excited.

I look flack over the last five years with the
help of my columns and I have a pretty good
record of what I was doing and thinking at
the time. 1 am not very good at keeping up a
diary as 1 tend to procrastinate too much so it
is really nice to have these columns as
memories. I really am fortunate to have had
the chance to gain experience in writing for a
newspaper and try different styles of writing.
Someday soon 1 will have to give up my
column as 1 will live too far away and be too
busy lvith school work to be able to give 100
per cent of my effort to my column. 1 sure do
hope that another teenager will take the
chance to take over my column., get some
experience and have the fun writing the
column that I have had over the last five
years.
It would be really nice to see Kids Teens
and In Betweens in the Huron Expositor for a
few more years anyway. However 1 will be
continuing to write for a while yet. See you
next week.
