The Huron Expositor, 1984-05-23, Page 4A4 — THE HURON EXPOSITOR, MAY 23, 1984 Perth's A Listowel area man will head the Perth local committee for the 1988 International Plowing Match to be hosted by Perth County. Doug Aitcheson of RR4, Listowel was named as chairman by members of the Perth County Plowmen's Association at a May 15 meeting. The past president of the'Perth Plowmen's Association, Mr. Aitcheson will be assisted in his three-year task by two co-chairmen. The co-chairmen are Lloyd Morrison of RR1, St. Marys and Ellard Lange of RR2, Tavistock. Automatic ,membership on the local committee goes to Perth's Ontario Plow- men's Association director Albert Carson of Listowel and Perth's agricultural representa- tive Alan Scott. Mr. Aitcheson said there is a lot of work to do over the next three years, and a lot of Perth County people will be called on to help. Mr. Morrison said about 25 committees will be needed to work on various aspects of the IPM and these Committees could involve 125 to 135 people. Some of the committee titles are tented city, parking, antique and historic, aviation, bands and parades, billets, farmstead improvement and trailer park. Mr. Lange, Perth's local committee chairman in 1972, called for all committee members and potential members to work together. He said that's how the committees worked in 1972, and it was "just wonderful" IPM:comrnittee chosen The plowmen's association has received a set back as it has been told the actual site of the match may not be chosen until the spring of next year. There are presently eight sites to be Former Dublin teacher BY JOAN CRONIN On Sunday, May 20, Dublin and area residents were very honoured to have a good friend and former teacher return now to celebrate Mass as Father Richard Rester. Father Bester, 34, is the son of Alberta Bester and the late Harold Bester and was born and raised in Cargill. He attended St. Joseph's school in Cargill, Mary immaculate School in Chepstow and Sacred Heart Secondary School in Walkerton. After graduating from the Stratford Teacher College in 1970 he taught for nine years St. Patrick's School, Dublin. He received his Bachelor o Arts Degre from Sir Wilfred Laurier niversity Waterloo and in 1979 he enter • St. Peter Seminary and graduated with a aste •f Divinity Degree in 1983. Richard served his Pastoral training at Sacred Heart ,Parish, Windsor where he spent one summer and at St. Francis Xavier in Tilbury and was ordained to the Diaconate on Nov. 20, 1983. Father's first Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Cargill'on May 6. While teaching in Dublin, Father Bester lived in Seaforth for seven years and then moved to Dublin where he boarded with Mrs. Camilla Evans for two years. Father Carrigan presented Father Rester with a gift of money on behalf of the parish considered and more are welcome said the plowmen. There is a cutoff date for submitting possible sites. The Perth plowmen said it will accept sites until July 1. is a priest and following Mass, the Catholic Women's League served a' luncheon. Father Bester was also -presented with a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a gift of money from the students of his last class in Dublin. Father was very pleased to see everyone in the community again especially his former students from all his nine years of teaching. Oostveen, chaplain of the Father Stephen Eckert Council, 5289 of Seaforth and District was honored on Thursday evening by the K of C members, prior to his leaving this area. A plaque and a certificate of appreciation was presented to him on behalf of the council by Grand Knight, Dennis Rau, and treasurer, Frank Crowley. Mr, Crowley gave a short history of the Council Chaplain. Canada in 1952 and before coming to St. Columban parish in 1969, he was stationed at Parkhill and Watford. He joined the Knights of Columbus in 1969 and was assistant chaplain with Fr. Laragh of St. James Church for. several years. Four years ago he was named chaplain of the Council. Following the presentations the Grand Knight and the members extended their appreciation to Fr. Oostveen for the many services he conducted at the meetings and at various times during the year. ROS specialist begins On May 1, Karen Rodman joined the forces at the Clinton Agricultural Office as Rural Organizations Specialist (Agriculture). A 1984 graduate from the B. Sc. (Agr.) program at the University of Guelph, she has majored in Agricultural Economics. While at Guelph, Karen has been involved with numerous organizations, such as College Royal, The Student Branch of the Ontario Institute of Agrologists and Aggie Week. Karen's tasks in Huron County involve co-ordination of the 4-11 program and liaison with other organizations such as Junior Farmers and Agricultural Societies. Lisa Thompson has joined the Clinton Agriculture and Food Staff as Junior Agriculturalists Co-ordinator for the count- ies of Huron and Perth. Lisa resides just south of Wingham. Lisa, 19, has successfully completed her first year at the University of, Guelph in the Bachelor of Applied Science program, majoring in Consumer Studies. Her duty as Junior Agriculturalist Co-or- dinator involves the, interviewing and hiring of urban''youths for the position of Junior Agriculturalists. She also chooses the host families who will provide the youth with support and encouragement in learning the ways of rural life. Chris Robson will be heading up the Agricrew program this year as co-ordinator for Huron County, a program which is in it seventh year. Chris recently graduated from Centralia College with a diploma in Agricultural Business Management, and upon comple- tion of this summer, will return home to farm with his father in Grey County. He is one of the 26 co-ordinators who will be stationed across Ontario this summer. tics tasks will involve screening, interview- ing and hiring crew members, organizing orientation sessions for the crews and arranging work agreements with farmers and subsequent fee collections. He will also keep accurate records of all transactions and correspondence. Tom Hartman has commenced duties as Summer Assistant to Soil and Crops Specialist Pat Lynch in Huron .and Perth Counties. He is currently working on a Pesticide Use Survey which was started last fall and later on will get involved with many other operations involved with the Agricul- tural Office.
