Ho! Ho! Hol Santa Claus is coming to
town. He is paying Brussels a pre -Christmas
visit with goodies for the kids. A welcoming
parade will meet him at the CIL plant.
Complete with floats and band, the parade
will escort him to his meeting with the
youngsters. Have you a float ready? Make
Santa's Christmas parade an exciting event.
Bring the children and be on hand for the
parade at 11:30 a,m.

Looking for a Christmas gift for a special
person? Make it the book "Grey Township
and Its People", A complete history ,of the
township from the 1850s until the present is
told, not only in historical facts, but with a
great deal of interesting information and
amusing anecdotes about Grey residents and
events. The book is enhanced with many
pictures of people, places and things. Anyone
• interested in such a history is sure to be
, delighted with "Grey Township and Its
People".
The takeover of small business concerns
continues. Large companies make it difficult
for a small business to compete. They wait
and watch, like a cat at a mouse hole, then
gobble them up when it is to their best
advantage. Recently Beatrice Foods, based
in Kingston, did just that in this area of
Ontario. Now McCain Products are in the
process of bidding for Millbank Cheese and
Butter Ltd. Earlier this year they took over
the Tavistock Union Cheese and Butter Co.'
The samelfiftig has happened, and continues
to happen in grocery, hardware, clothing,
publishing and other small commercial
enterprises. Unfortunate but true, the big
grow bigger and the small disappear.

Ontario's Correspondence Education sec-
tion will now be called the Independent
Learning Centre, said Dr. Bette Stephenson,
minister of education.
Correspondence Education was created in
1926 to serve elementary students in isolated
areas.
Course design originally depended almost
entirely on printed and written materials with
the postal service providing delivery. Utiliza•
tion of high technology in both the develop-
ment and delivery of courses has prompted
the exclusion of the word correspondence
from the- name. While print will continue to
play a significant role. telecommunications,
audio and video tapes and microcomputers
will increasingly become an integral part of
the learning system.
The Independent Learning Centre current •
ly offers over 190 elementary and secondary
school courses in both official languages as
well as courses in English as a Second
Language All courses are free to Ontario
residents who qualify.

Those weird Cabbage Patch Kids have got
into trouble. The principal of, a Brampton'
elementary school has sent parents a letter
informing them the dolls are too young tg
attend school. They should be kept at home in
their nurseries during school hours. He was
having trouble keeping track of which
Cabbage Patch doll belonged to what young
parent. It is likely such a question brought
tearful arguments. In the U.S. it has been
reported the dolls have caused more seririEEs
problems. They have become status symbols.,
to their child owners. Kids ridicule, make fun
of, and exclude the"'little girls who do not have
a Cabbage Patch Kid, What a shame that
such young children become snobs, ignoring
those they consider socially inferior. What
kind of adults will they become if they grow
up believing material possessions makes a
person better than others who have lets.
