B2 — THE HURON EXPOSITOR, .NOVEMBER 21, 1984 SPORTS Ifs_snow f n t theof cesta inJin oors too young. Or maybe, as they keep telling me around here, I just have to spend one winter in Seaforth before 1 too, will groan at the prospect of a snowfall. SWEAT SOCKS - by Heather Mellwraith I had' a strange awakening here at the Expositor office this week, It seems no one here has much enthusiasm about the fast approaching winter. Needless io say I was shocked—and maybe even a little appalled. There 1 was bopping around the office singing my own, and not too shabby, rendition of Winter Wonderland, when 1 was greeted by a series of groans. Now. 1 know 1 m no Olivia Newton -John, but 1 was sure my voice wasn't so bad as to warrant such a derogatory response. 1 knew there had to be another explanation. But, was 1 surprised when 1 found out what it was. It seems I'm the exception and not the rule when ii comes to personal feelings about the winter season. While 1 was so greatly inspired and hyped up on the growing possibilities that presented themselves as the snowflakes continued to fall. and the snow began to amass, everyone else was miserable and depressed. Maybe I'm crazy, or maybe I'm just a big kid at heart, but when it starts to snow I become an impassioned person. There's nothing like a snowfall to rouse a person's enthusiasm. In fact 1 can hardly sit still Co write this column for want of heading out the door in search of a good tobagganing hill. It's all 1 cap do to bide my time, before I rfush out the door and into the snowy night, What a natural high. Anyway, the thought of it is keeping my adrenalin flowing, and my mind active. All day 1 find myself, not with sugarplums dancing in my head. but snowmen. snow angels. igloos and skiiers inspiring nie to good times. I can hardly wait to throw a snowball at some unsuspecting soul (in good ttSI VISA 11111111111118@ 4 J' EQUIPMENT & CLOTHING 20-50% OFF GIFT CERTIFICATES for golf or equipment GIFTS as low as 55,00 Layaway Now THINK GOLF THIS CHRISTMAS a Pat'?ridge ori par thr aee. Snowballs were somewhat of a rarity in Alberta, where good packing snow does not exist, And, somehow snowball fights weren't quite as amusing when you were forced to carry a bucket of water to make them stick together. Despite the negativity around here about winter, I'm still riding a high about its possibilities. 1 have, however. knocked down a bit since 1 first started my tirade around the office. Seems I remembered the tribulations of winter and completely fofgot the trials. Guess my mind just refused to acknowledge the shovelling, the cold and wet, the cars that won't start and the rotten driving conditions that go along with winter, Maybe i'm,an optimist.
