Ministry wants to
The Ministry of Education wants to hear
from Ontario residents on the education of
young children.
The primary consultant for the Perth Board
of Education, Sharon Abbey, has set aside
five nights this month to hear from interested
persons.
The aim of the province -wide study is to
look at the quality of programs and services
for four to eight year olds. The intention is to
make improvements where required.
The major,objectives call for the clarifica-
tion of the purposes and benefits of early
primary education. Another objective is to
strengthen communication and co-operation
among government agencies and institutions
dealing with young children.

Osborn of RR 2, Monkton, who were married
48 years on Nov. 5. The occasion was
celebrated with a surprise party at their
home given by their children.
On Oct. 28 Mr. and Mrs. Howard Osborn
entertained their friends Elmer Hoppenrath.

Minnie Leonhardt to a dinner and evening of
entertainment.

funeral of Joe Wesenberg.

Leonhardt and Mary Jane Kaufman, at•
tended the wedding on Friday of Michelle
Burnett to Michael Coleman, in Utica.
Michigan. Michelle is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Elmer Burnett.
Sam Elliott of Detroit had a massive heart
attack on Aug. 24 and has'been in a coma
since. His wife Helen has many cousins and
aunts in the Mitchell and Brodhagen arca.

During service at Cromarty Church on
Sunday. Rev. Ken Knight administered the
Sacrament of Baptism to Heather Margaret,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Craig Kerslake,
Staffa and Amanda Elizabeth. daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Pullman, Staffa.
Many from this community attended the
40th wedding anniversary for Mr. and Mrs,
Mervin Dow, on Friday evening in Mitchell,
Weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Rob
Templeman, Carrah and Cain were Mr. and
Mrs. John Newfield, Grimsby and Mr. and
Mrs. Royden Ritz and family, Kitchener.
Visiting at the J. Templeman home on the
weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Neilson and
girls, St. Catherines; Darlene Ellison, Goder-
ich; Joanne Templeman and Pat Donovan,
Milton; Ruth Templeman, Stratford: David
and Karen Templeman. Mitchell; Fay
Martyn and girls, Russeldale; Nancy Bertens
and family and Mary Jane Parsons.

Halloween proved to be very quiet in the
community but residents had more ghotsts
and goblins then other years.
Sympathy of the community is extended to
Orville and Lila Storey and family in the
passing of Lila's brother, Hugh Norris,
Cromarty, who died quite suddenly of a heart
attack.

Mrs. Arthur Smale hosted a special
meeting of the- Staffa Women's institute,
combining Ontario's Bi -centennial and the
Tweedsmuir Histories at her home recently.
There were a number of special guests
present, among them, Geraldine Siemon,
Mitchell. She is in charge of the new archives
in -Mitchell and told the assembled women
what is available there in the way of birth,
death and marriage records. Mrs. Siemon
was introduced by Mrs. Jack Burchill and
thanked by Mrs. Kay Smale. Mrs. Burchill
chaired the afternoon event opening with a
poem.
Mrs. Russell Worden, Seaforth, a former
member reminisced about . her years with
Staffa Women's Institute and Mrs. Charles
Douglas read an amusing account of an early
Staffa WI meeting. Several musical numbers
were sung by Mrs. Ross Smale, Seaforth.
Greetings were brought by Mrs. Mervin
Shute, Kirkton, Perth South District Presi-
dent; Mrs. Bert McIntosh, Motherwell, Perth
South District Curator and Mrs. Roy Ross,
Thamesford. Tweedsmuir Curator for the
London area. Lunch was served by Mrs. John
Drake, Mrs. Robert McCaughey and the
hostess, Mrs. Arthur Smale.
Constable Bob Morrow, Kitchener OPP
was guest speaker at the Resolutions meeting
of the Staffa Women's Institute, held in the
Township hall on Wednesday evening Oct.

to the Supreme Council of Ontario. They were
