The Huron Expositor, 1984-10-24, Page 14A14 -- THE HURON EXPOSITOR, OCTOBER 24, 1984 SPORTS Figure skating schedule nearing start A•meeting to discuss the formation of a RECREATION PREVIEW by Bryn Peter` RECREATION DIRECTOR 527-0882 FIGURE SKATING begins its new season. on Monday, October 29 with the following timetable: 4:30-5:30 p.m. Pre -Beginners and Beginners: 5:30-6:30 p.m. Elementary, Basic and Novice 1-4; 6:45.8:30 p.m. Seniors. All children five years and under, or anyone who has had no previous skating experience must wear a helmet. All groups up to Seniors will have fifteen minutes of coaching and supervising instruction with a Professional Coach, plus thirty minutes of practice with the Amateur Coach, plus fifteen minutes of supervision with the Parent Volunteers. Seniors will have professional supervision for Patch, Free Skate. and Dance. Late reuistrations and unpaid registrations wilt be accepted the first night of skating on October 29 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. The figure skating executive wishes to congratulate Joan Dodds, Donna McClure, Susan Ball, Diane Armes, Jason Rodney and Carolyn Cook who successfully completed the Can Skate Amateur Coaches Clinic held at Listowel recently. A CURLING INSTRUCTION CLINIC will be held on Saturday, October 27 starting at 9 a.m. at the Seaforth 'Curling Club. The Curl Canada Method of Instruction will be taught by Irma Pryce. Everyone is welcome to attend. JUNIOR BASEBALL team for Seaforth will be held on Thursday, November 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the arena. Interested parents and citizens are urged to attend to discuss the formation of this team. The SILVER CREEK CROSS COUNTRY SKI CLUB will be holding their organiza- tional meeting on Monday, October 29 at 7:00 p.m. at the Arena. The meeting is being held to discuss plans for the upcoming season and to elect a new ' executive. SHUFFLEBOARD continues every Wed- nesday from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Arena. Everyone is welcome to attend and enjoy an afternoon of fun and fellowship. PUPPET WORKSHOPS begin Thursday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the Van Egmond House. The registration fee for the five week program is 810. You may still register for this program by contacting the Recrea- tion Office at 527-0882. Centenaires take luck from the Irish In an evenly matched game, the Seaforth Centenaires defeated the Lucan Irish, 6-4 on Friday night at the Seaforth and District Community Centres. In the first period, Scott Driscoll opened the scoring for the Centenaires with assists going to Dave Murray and John Dale. Lucan tied the score with a goal by S. Schaffer at 14:43. In the second period the Centenaires moved ahead scoring five goals to Lucan's two. Kev Melady, Jim Campbell and Mark Stapleton each scored once for the Cente- naires. Greg Murray hit the mark twice for the Seaforth team. Lucan scorers were S. Balazo and W. Urbshott. The Centenaires were scoreless in the third period but kept the Irish at one goal to maintain control of the game. Derek Cooper played a strong game for Seaforth in goal, stopping 38 of the 42 shots fired at him. The Centenaires had 43 shots on the Lucan goal. The Centenaires play their next home game, Friday, Oct. 26 when they host the Mitchell Hawks. Game time is 8:30 ..m. (Mcllwraith photo) Area teams in mixed broomball In mixed broomball action Thursday night the Blyth Inn Bandits recorded a 1-0 shut out over Auburn. Scott Machan set up Paul Cook for the game's only goal with 6:15 remaining in the second period to give the Bandits the win. On Tuesday the Blyth Bears edged the Blyth Inn Bandits 3-2, in a fast and exciting broomball game. The Bandits took an early 1-0 lead en an unassisted effort by Scott Machan. Three single /goals by Gary Souch, Len Knohert and Don Nicholson, enabled the Bears to grab a 3-1 lead. With three and a half minutes left in .the game the Blyth Inn cut the margin to 3-2, when Paul Cook was set up by Scott Machan, but the Bears managed to maintain their one goal lead. The curling season has arrived and curlers this year will see a fresh look in that the walls of the ice area have received a coat of white paint. The icemaker, Peter Jansen has been working hard to prepare the curling ice which is gradually taking shape. On Thursday night two goals by Allison Graham paced the Blyth Baintoneers to a 2-0 victory over the Goderich Knight Riders. SPECIAL EVENT The special events committee headed by Steve Brown (phone 482-7745) has planned the Fall dance for Nov. 10 at the Seaforth and District Community Centres with lunch provided.
