Society has anniversar Jesus Christ, the Light of the World was the theme of the 100th Anniversary of Stratford Presbyterial Women's Missionary Society, held in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Stratford, Tues. Oct. 9. Mrs. Stuart Peebles bf Atwood, co -presi- dent of Stratford -Huron Presbyterial, started the afternoon program with Call to Worship and -opening prayer. Continuing on the theme i$bf Light, Blanche Dougall, Beatrice Ersman and Mrs. Kenneth Knight, all of Exeter, used as .their scripture John 8: 12-20 for the devotions. Greetings were given from Stratford -Pres- byterial by its president, Mrs. Peebles from Stratford -Huron Presbytery by its Moderator Rev. Ross Macdonald, minister of St. Andrew's, Stratford, from St. Andrew's WMS groups by Mrs. Norman Coulthari and from Huron by Mrs. Clayton H. Edwards of Goderich. The ladies of Listowel groups presented a historical sketch, dressed in fashions of the day. They were holding their first meeting and their speaker was Mrs. Daniel Gordon, first president of Stratford Presbyterial. Seven past presidents were presented with corsages by Mrs. Robert McTavish, first vice president, Mrs, Peebles was presented with an Honorary Membership Certificate and pin, by Mrs. H.H.G. Strang of Exeter, a past president, and Mrs. Edwards, co -president of Stratford -Huron Presbyterial. The bride is the daughter of Murray and Olene Dennis of Walton and the groom is the son of Don and Marilyn Forbes of Clinton. Maid of Honttr was Elaine Dennis, of Walton, sister of the bride, and bridesmaids were Peggy Wakabayashi, of London, sister of the bride and Barb Forbes, of Clinton. cousin of the. groom. Best man was Terry Smith of Walton and guests were ushered by Brad Forbes, brother of the groom, of London, and Steve Dennis, of Walton, brother of the bride. Mrs..., Coulthard introduced the speaker, Mrs. Kenneth Rayner of Paris, the president of Hamilton -London Synodical. The offerings were to be used for the African Famine Appeal. Following the program a dinneir was held in Knox Presbyterian Church. An evening program was held in St. Andrews Church. Mrs. Wm. Harvey of Newton with Mrs. Glen Allen, Milverton led a hymn sing. After a Call to Worship by Mrs. Peebles, Elaine Thomson, of Harrington WMS, presented a tribute to Mrs. Gordon. The special music was a trio from Avonton, Mrs. Henry MacNeill, Mrs. Jack Mathison and Mrs. Oliver Stacey, The Old Testament scripture was read by Mrs. Donald McTavish and the New Testament by Mrs. Peter McTavish both of Shakespeare. An impressive candlelighting ceremony followed when a representative from each of the society's in Stratford -Huron Presbyterial lit a candle from a larger one lit by Mrs. Peebles. • Holy Communion was served by- Rev. Linda Brown, an Area Educational Consult- ant. 185 ladies signed the register.
