The Julnning team Includes, back row, left to Appreciation night held for MP Bill Jarvis Former MP, Bill Jarvis will be honored at an appreciation night to be held at the Shakespearean Festival Theatre in Stratford on Nov. 22. Vince Judge, president of the Perth Progressive Conservative Association, an- nounced that former prime minister Joe Clark and deputy prime minister Erik Nielsen have said they will attend. Mr. Judge said an invitation has been extended to Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and the association hopes the prime minister is able to make it to the function, Various other members of the Tory caucus and Mr. Jarvis' colleagues will be on hand. The riding association president said tributes and presentations will be made to Mr. Jarvis and there will be entertainment followed by refreshments. He added that not all details will be annouficed as some will remain as a surprise for Mr, Jarvis. . Mr, Jervis was repilaoed as Perth's MP by Dr. Harry Brightwell in the Sept. 4 federal election. Mr. Jarvis had served the riding for over 12 years. He announced his retirement in Jan, of this year. Brodhagen 4-H By Morel Scherbarth The third meeting of the Brodhagen 441 club was led by Colleen Gilbert. rMembers continued with everyone an• meting the roll call. "Tell the club about the five ways you found to move it more." Some members answered that they walk to the barn, and they also walk to get the paper and the mail, instead of riding their three -wheel• er. The rest of the members do more running in their gym class at school. Everyone took their part in helping to prepare the coleslaw, and the chili con carne. Whtle'the chili was cooking they continued on with our lesson. To exercise our calf, hamstring and our thigh muscles, Members did three exercises. To finish off the lesson, they ate the cole-slaw and•chili. The second meeting of the Brodhagen 4.H club was led by Colleen Gilbert. Everyone answered the roll call. "Com• ment on the breakfast recipe you tried, Report your score for Breakfast Bingo". Jean Ahrens helped in the kitchen where the members prepared corn chowder. Every• one enjoyed it very much. The girls were then told to wear a jogging suit for exercises at their next meeting. St. Marys girl crowned Queen A St. Marys area girl was recently crowned Perth County Queen of the Furrow at the Perth Plowmen's Association annual dinner meeting in Milverton, Marlene Kernick, 1& a grade 13 student at St. Marys District Collegiate and Vocational Institute was crowned over six other girls competing for the title. She is the daughter of Maxine and Wilbur Kernick, Sponsored by the Junior Farmers, Marlene is an assistant leader with 4-H and is currently working towards her advanced honors in that program. She hopes to become a dietitian. The first runner-up was Trish Nicholson of RR 2, Monkton, An 18 -year-old student at Sheraton College, Trish is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Nicholson. The other five girls competing were Bonnie Bender of RR 2, Listowel; Sherri Herrfort of RR 1, Newton; Tammy Pauli of RR 1, Mlverton; Laurie Scherbarth of RR 1, Bornholm and Linda Rank of RR 1, Monkton. The new Perth Queen of the Furrow takes over from Susan Cook. 20, of RR 1, Gadshill. Plowing awards were presented at the banquet with Elmer Erb of Millbank and Bryan Bertrand of RR 1, St. Marys tying for the most points in the two day county match held in Aug. Bob DeBrabendere of RR 1, St, Marys received the first-ever conservation tillage class trophy presented by John Stephens on behalf of the Upper Thames Rivet Conserva- tion Authority. Mr. Stephens is chairman of the UTRCA. Two other first time awards were present- ed to John Good of RR 2, St...Pauls. He received the highest point average in the 4-H Sodbusters flub competition. The Brodhagen Diet Club celebrated 'their seventh anniversary with a chinese dinner at Gene's, ' Stratford. They returned to the Brodhagen Community Centre --for an ev,ening of entertainment. Special awards were given out. If anybody would care to join meetings are every Monday at 8 p.m. except holidays. 'In the' morning Henry Leonhardt and Jim Brown of Thamesford arrived with a lot of cabbage and crocks and cabbage cutters. They soon got busy with the cabbage cutters. By noon Phyllis and Lisa Leonhardt and Colleen Brown arrived. After, dinner they 'had a real sauerkraut bee going. Randy Nairn arrived in the afternoon still in time' to get his share at the job.
